1/16/05, Berkeley, California
Among those attending the anti-terrorism rally was Ellen Cohen of Palo Alto. "I oppose terrorism," she said. "Although I believe the Palestinians deserve a state, I don't agree with their means to achieve it. I don't think you should strap bombs on kids and send them out to kill other kids."
She was disappointed to see a counter demonstration.
"I was really hoping that they would be on this side, protesting terrorism," she said.

Around 700 folks (at its' peak), from all walks of life, showed up to support Israel, and to protest against the use of terrorism. But this is Berkeley, and the Israel/Jew-haters were out in force as well.
The anti-Israel counter protest centered around a truck-full of Palestinian Arabs (seen below) chanting Islamic and anti-Israeli slogans, and waving Palestinian Flags. I was waiting for the AK-47's to come out...
Some Pro-Israel folks...
The anti-Israeli side was fully prepared with signs that were handed out to everyone. A lot of Berkeley hippie burnouts showed up for the affair as well.
The Anti-Terrorism rally centered around the blown-out remains of Bus 19, in which 11 innocent civilians were killed, and dozens injured.

Eventually, the counter protesters walked across the street and confronted the Pro-Israel folks. I was witness to many heated arguments. Thanks to BPD, only one physical altercation was reported.
(above)Berkeley Police making sure things didn't get out of hand. I heard Israel supporters chant "Police, thanks for being here" at one point.
Just as in the Middle East, hatred (in Berkeley) is taught at an early age. I didn't hear it myself, but I was told that this group was chanting "Death to Jews" at one point (children included).

For some laughs, after the rally, I went to a Berkeley Socialist bookstore off of Telegraph Ave...
If they only knew there was "fascist" in their midst...

The Psalm 83 sign on the blown-up bus says it all. America must stand with Israel, not just for military strategic and economic reasons....but for SPIRITUAL ones as well.

I love the "Organ Thieves" sign.
Do people actually still believe that?
It has been debunked for months.

An Israeli bus, destroyed in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem on Jan. 29, 2004, killing 11 passengers, is transported away from a garage in Jerusalem, Feb. 17, 2004. The traveling exhibit of the bombed-out remains of this Jerusalem bus is sparking controversy in Berkeley, Calif., where a counter-protest is planned to demonstrate opposition to Israeli policy. Organizers of the exhibit, which will be the focus of an anti-terrorism rally on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, say the point is to show the devastating effects of terrorism. (AP Photo/Baz Ratner, File)

Thanks for the ping. Great photos. I could not attend due to family obligations.
My least favorite commie poster is the one in the last photo where there is an implied complaint about the imbalance of casualties.
You see these at all of the leftie rallies. I always ask the person carrying it "Do you wish for the Palestinians (or Iraquis, Afghans, whoever) to kill more Jews (or Americans)? Don't you think they are killing as many as they can? Should someone help them kill more effectively in order to bring 'balance' to these numbers?"
The response is always a vague "Well, I want both sides to stop killing."
Well, fine. But now we're no longer talking about numbers but rather talking about who's attacking whom. Just because someone attacks ineffectively and then gets spanked, that doesn't make them justified in their attack.
Arabs Attack U.S. Anti-Terror March 17:43 Jan 17, '05 / 7 Shevat 5765
San Francisco, California police were braced for more violence Monday following yesterday's violent attack by Arabs and other anti-Zionists who charged into a crowd of 500 anti-terror protestors.
Fists flew as the pro-Israel group gathered in Berkeley and heard speakers denounce terrorism. More than 200 anti-Israel demonstrators yelled taunts at the crowd until several of them tried to break up the anti-terror rally while waving Palestinian flags and covering their faces, posing as would-be Arab terrorists.
"Two, four, six, weight, we are martyrs, we can't wait," several of them chanted as they charged the crowd. Riot police separated the two sides after several fights broke out. One man was arrested for assault as "emotions were high," according to a police sergeant.
Among the anti-Israeli crowd were many Arabs, including Cairo-born Essam Maghoub, who said, "We are here to make sure these people are ashamed of themselves. They [Israelis] stole our land, raped our women, destroyed our olive trees and destroyed our homes."
The rally featured the bombed-out bus number 19 that Arab suicide terrorists bombed in Jerusalem last year, killing 11 people and injuring 45. The same bus is to stand in San Francisco at a similar rally Monday afternoon, which is Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in the United States. The holiday is in memory of Dr. King, who was assassinated during a non-violence demonstration which characterized his struggle against segregation.
"They attempted to disrupt the rally through the same kinds of intimidation and indiscriminate violence that are the hallmarks of our 21st century scourge, global terrorism," said David Meir-Levi who was the master-of-ceremonies at the Berkeley rally.
