EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (Jan. 18) - Philadelphia has long been considered one of the toughest places to play in the National Football League - with a major reason being the antics of the Eagles' notoriously rough crowd.
A few Minnesota Vikings players said some of the fans harassed their relatives at Lincoln Financial Field in Sunday's playoff game, which the Eagles won 27-14.
"It's a shame it happened, but I think they overall still had a good time," left guard Chris Liwienski said.
Quarterback Daunte Culpepper was upset about the way he said his wife was treated in the stands.
"You can boo, you can have fun with it, but when it comes to the point where you're throwing stuff and spitting on people, it's disrespectful," Culpepper said. "That's how people really get hurt. Lord knows, if I would've been up there, somebody definitely would've gotten hurt."
Moss should have mooned them ;^)
As a life-long Vikes fan...I have an idea on how to not have the Eagles fans treat your wife poorly...
WIN!
Well, at least they weren't throwing batteries...this time.
but if it were about bush supporters, it would be irresponsible journalism, right?
Worst fans in any and all sports. Real pieces of dung.
How drunk and stupid does one have to be to throw things at and spit on women?
in denver, when they throw batteries, they break their own players' eye sockets.
oh, I'm sorry, did I interrupt your baseless philadelphia-bashing with facts? never mind.
I have been to many Eagles games, At Franklin Field, The Vet, and except for Democrats(FaT EDDIE RENDELL) I have never seen any untoward behavior. It sounds like left-wing propaganda to me.
Philly is a pathetic hellhole. Unfortunately, the cradle of America has become home to miscreants and poofers.
Several years ago, the local media accused Brett Favre of adultery, even though they knew it was a lie. They later admitted it, saying they were just trying to get inside his head. They didn't care what affect this had on his family, just that they might be able to get some sort of advantage for the Vi-Queens.
I don't agree with anyone treating a player or members of their family rudely, but as the saying goes, people that live in glass houses...
should get dressed with the lights out?
Especially if your old and fat like me.

Both teams are getting more and more thuggish. It's a relatively new trend for the Vikings and Moss has a lot to do with it, but the Eagles have been this way for decades. Remember the bounty they put on the Cowboy's QB? You have teams with that sort of culture and you get fans with that sort of behavior.
I hate to say this for fear of good Philly Eagles fans out there, but those fans are the scum of the American sports.
(Not quite the scum of all sports, however. Nobody can top Spanish soccor fans making monkey noises at black English players. Vile.)
It's amazing. Some lazy hack journalist writes the same "bad Philly fans" piece that's been written, re-written and written again 100,000 times over in the MSM, and people take it as gospel, every single time.
When it comes to Philly fans, Freepers have no problem with buying the Old Media party line. It's just everything else that they're skeptical of. How convenient.
Yeah! Like when they started that fight with the Pacers and the game ended early.
Oh wait.
I've been physically assaulted in New York and Cleveland simply for wearing the apparel of a visiting team. In both cases, my hosts (natives of each city) agree that I did nothing to provoke it. On the other hand, neither of them have been assaulted while wearing Mets and Browns apparel to games in Philly. Small sample size, yes, but it carries more weight than your unrealized media-driven fears.
Right. That title is reserved exclusively for teams filled with crack addicts who have a healthy appetite for strippers and prostitues.
You can have your team's CBS-manufactured moniker. Nobody else wants it anyway. This isn't the Olympics. Teams represent the cities they play in front of. The Dallas Cowboys represent every frontrunner who roots for whoever the tv tells them to root for.
What's a good Philly fan? I never heard ESPN talk about one of those. They can't be real.
Just waiting for the day a football jumps into the stands a la Artest...
don't worry - they'll be profiting off of our passion soon enough in the two weeks before February 6th, win or lose.
Culpepper is about the opposite of thug. He's a class act in my estimation. Truth is, in every NFL stadium, 10% of the fans think it's their God-given right to be on their very worst behavior, thinking that the price of the ticket means anything goes.
Culpepper himself has not done anything to make me think less of him. But let's face it - this is a third-hand account at best, and even if true, probably accounts for about 2 fans out of 60,000. Just your typical regurgitated lazy journalistic nonsense.
They won't profit from me. ESPN is persona non grata in my house (Sunday Night Football excluded). They have been pretty much since the NFL Countdown crew's sniveling, mass mea culpa over the Limbaugh blowup.
Thank goodness for NFL Network.
I have to agree with you.
I live in the Twin Cities and two years ago, a TV station heard stories about fans of other teams being pushed around and verbally abused at the Metrodome.
They went around with a hidden camera and sure enough, there was a lot of poor behavior on the part of Vikings fans. None of it rose to the level of fisticuffs or battery throwing but it was nonetheless obnoxious.
OTOH, it seems like this kind of stuff is happening at a lot of stadiums. Battery throwing, excessive verbal abuse and assault used to be the domain of certain east coast teams (as well as the Raiders)..but it has spread across the country...even to my beloved Lambeau Field.
Simple, absolute truth. Everything else is a media distortion.
Exactly what I meant. 10% of the fans, or perhaps a little less, at every stadium is a sociopath. It's not a very good gauge of a city's residents. It's like saying our prisoners are a little less violent than yours.
I agree, Philly fans are harder on their own teams than they are on visiting teams (unless they deserve the verbal abuse, however).
Do I detect a pissed off Philly fan?
I'll leave the research up to you, but there has been more than ONE article written about your fans out there.
I do agree with what you said (later post) about the Dallas Criminals Cowboys.

How was I baseless bashing? Are you disputing that Philly fans have thrown batteries?
Man did they ever give my Rams a world class thumpin'.
I was pretty much convinced that Vick was all hype, over rated media stuff.
After watching that game, all I can say about Michael Vick is........
HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!
I don't think the NFL has ever seen a player like him.
Good luck to the Falcons......I want to see Vick shred the Eagle defense.
LVM
only if you're disputing that Denver fans have done worse. of course, here, batteries were found near JD Drew and a conclusion was jumped to; there, a player required surgery from actual impact.
but no one knows about THAT one... why not? oh right, it didn't happen in Philadelphia, and a 2am internet search by a reporter that night didn't turn up any old events to copy and paste.

Tim Green played in all the NFL cities of his era. He said the most vile fans were Iggles fans...
Or where a flyers jersey to a ranger game
oh yeah - those 82 passing yards have me shaking in my baby booties.
Of course, every time I've been to a game there, there is more Green and Gold in the stands than cardinal red. Favre says playing in Phoenix is like a playing a home game in a warm climate.
What are you referring to?
LVM
Funny how that got over looked, huh?
Maybe it was Vick's 119 rushing yards - ?
Or Warrick Dunn's 142 rushing yards - ?
Philly is going to have their hands full - anyway you look at it.
LVM
My opinion of Philly fans comes strictly from first hand experience at The Vet and Lincoln Financial - they are foul-mouthed, unshaven, knuckle-dragging morons who don't even bother to wipe the vomit from their chins.
And that's just the chicks.
Never said he was, except by association. The team is getting more and more thuggish, though, and he isn't stepping up to call folks like Moss out and have them clean up their act.
Agree on the NFL (or baseball or basketball or soccer) fans. The problem is when the teams cultivate the attitudes. Both the Vikings and Eagles are teams that cultivate the 'bad boy' image. With the Eagles it really came to a head with Buddy Ryan. I don't think they've ever looked back. I think it is a part of Philadelphia's culture, too.
The Titans, for example, don't seem to have that culture. I don't think the Packers do either. I have to think about each team, trying to seperate my team preferences from the culture they sell. Your own guys are never the 'bad guys,' unless, of course, you're a Raiders fan. ;^>
My niece wore a Broncos jersey to the Eagles/Broncos game in 87
Great - except the Denver Broncos didn't visit Philadelphia in 1987. (home games vs. NO, CHI, DAL, WAS, NYG STL, MIA, and BUF). Are you a liar as well as an idiot?
Then we have the Cheering while Michael Irvin was being carted off the field
translation: jeering deion sanders's "look at me" witch-doctor dance around him
the Santa Clause incident
forgive us for being dissatisfied with the clearly drunk santa substitute (the original one was absent).
booing the selection of Donovan Mcnabb
as opposed to the giants and jets fans, whoi boo their selection every year. (not to mention the 30 philly fans were upset simply that mcnabb was NOT ricky williams)
hth.
Again, are you disputing that Philly fans threw batteries?
If so, you are lying and you know it.
If not, I expect you to retract the accusation that I was "baseless philadelphia-bashing".
