Byrd calls himself a "multibillion dollar industry". You get Byrd out of office, and you would be stunned at the drop, plus after effect drop, in porking.
He is, enemy #1 of tax payers, and up until 2001, had become a laughing stock in his own party.
This is a guy who infuriated Kerry by fighting to have coal listed as a "clean fuel". Senator Tom Coburn has made it clear, he's gunning for Byrd.
Byrd, is (no exagerration) considered one of the biggest indsutries and source of money, in his state.
Pork, pure and simple. The man has made sure that West Virginia has gotten it's share, and more, of the Federal Dollar ever since he's been in office.
Perhaps because "African-Americans" don't know they can vote Republican.
Perhaps because there is a different standard for Democrats.
The reason he can get elected is because he is a Democrat and they control the ballots.
