Will the Democrats ever get it?

As President George W. Bush is preparing to take the oath of office for his second term today, I am reminded of the speech Democrat icon and Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy made to the National Press Club last week. The gist of the speech was that the Democrats have been unsuccessful in conveying their ideas to the voters, hence their continuing losses at the polls.

"There is no doubt that we must do a better job of looking within ourselves and speaking out for the principles we believe in and for the values that are the foundation of our actions. Americans need to hear more, not less, about those values.

"We were remiss in not talking more directly about them, about fundamental ideals that guide our progressive principles."

At the same time Kennedy attempted to marginalize the Bush victory by stating that he categorically rejected "the deceptive and dangerous claim that the outcome of last November was somehow a sweeping or even modest or even miniature mandate for reactionary measures like privatizing Social Security…redistributing the tax burden in the wrong direction and packing the federal courts with reactionary judges."

Gee, Ted, I don’t know how to tell you this, but the reason the Democrats lost was that voters are finally beginning to understand that the Democratic party is about words, while the Republicans are about actions. I’m sure the voters heard your message well enough. That’s why the election resulted in the Republicans controlling all three branches of the U.S, Government, while the majority of states now have Republican governors. Any claim to the contrary is indicative of a state of extreme denial. . . . .

The Democrats need to (i) come up with a PROGRAM, not just criticisms and protests, and (ii) that program needs to be something that THE PEOPLE WANT.

Part of the problem is that if they go with their instincts, they are too far left for the electorate. And if they try to be Republican lite, they are (rightly) seen as opportunistic and insincere. And if they try to "purge" the party of the real leftists, they lose a huge chunk of their base.

Doesn't sound good for them. But the Republicans hve to stick to their principles, stay united, and nominate strong candidates. They are just as capable of handing the Democrats a win as the Democrats are of losing on their own.

IMHO.

Yes the Dem-ole-rats are still about blame, blame anybody or anything but never look at your self. People are tired of their smoke and mirrors then do nothing.

The President understands that the destiny of America is to create a free world by example if possible, or by force, if necessary.

One could argue, they're losing because they've been successful in conveying their ideas to the voters.

No the current Democrats will never get it, they are Socialist, Marxist and Collectivist, or what they prefer to hide as Progressives. Until the Democrats rid themselves of Socialist they will continue to fail.

Maybe Ted can get some queer theory advocates and some income redistribution pundits to more clearly explain the message of the Democrats.

I'm not sure that it will get them more votes though ;)

I think a significant number of the Democrats already get it, which is why you will likely see a big split and the formation of a viable third party -- either the mod/conservative Democrats like Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman will leave and start the own party, or the Michael Moore/Pelosi/Boxer branch will.

I, for one, am perfectly satisfied to let democRATs continue unimpeded down the road they have chosen.

Unfortunately they don't have to get it. The republicans will just turn into a bunch of week-kneed sissies afraid to cause a fuss, and that attitude will just hand the rats back power. It will happen, just wait and see.

For some reason, the author has omitted what I believe is the most significant cause of their (Democrats) ongoing decline -- the emergence of the alternative mass media, which are consistently able to rapidly counter Democrat lies and advance alternative (conservative) points of view.

The Democrats have long relied on the "old media" to relentlessly attack the Republicans and to promote Democrat Party propaganda. The latter case is extremely important because, without the media spinning Democrat lies, they are finished. This is because, to the contrary of Kennedy's statement, if the TRUE views of the Democrats were accurately communicated, the electorate would reject them on a massive scale.

So, the sad fact (for the Democrats) is that, thanks to the alternative media, the true values of the Democrats ARE being communictaed, more clearly than ever before. With the old media standing by helplessly watching their power -- and the fortunes of their brethren, the socialist Democrats -- diminish year by year.

The Democrats could win the next election by simply doing the following.

1. Come up with a concrete plan to eliminate (not control) Illegal Immigration.

2. Privatize Social Security (if it hasn't been done by then)

3. Eliminate the IRS and establish either a national sales tax or a flat tax.

4. Eliminate 50% of the beauracracies (sp) now in existance (unconstitutionally I might add) in the Federal Government.

With those 4 steps they could capture not only the white house but also the congress and the Senate.

IF they then actually DID those things over the following 2 to 3 years, they would be in power probably until the year 3000.

But they won't.

Oh, I think folks understand their 'principles' quite well, they just REJECT them. I sure hope the Dems don't catch on for quite a while. ;o)
