The Republican-controlled House intends to subpoena Hunter Biden — but not President Joe Biden — during its investigation of whether the President is compromised by his family’s foreign business dealings. “There’s no plans to subpoena Joe Biden. There are plans to subpoena Hunter Biden,” Rep. Jim Comer (R-KY) told CNN on Friday. Comer is the top Republican on the House oversight committee and is in charge of conducting many of the investigations into the Biden family business. Joe Biden is unlikely to be subpoenaed by the Republican House because compelling testimony from a president is “complicated,” Comer said.

Democratic governors hailed passage of a bipartisan infrastructure package that will send billions of dollars to state coffers to launch new projects and rebuild crumbling roads and bridges. But only a handful of their Republican colleagues heralded the bill, which won votes from 19 Republican senators and 13 Republicans in the House. “This bipartisan bill will put America’s infrastructure on the right track to grow jobs and make our economy competitive for the twenty-first century without raising taxes or adding to the debt,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said in a statement. “After decades of gridlock, I’m proud to have...

What could be more ’80s Hollywood than two child stars sneaking off on a date to Johnny Carson’s set? SNIP Interestingly, he says that although his politics skewer very much to the left, his stand-up audience is generally Republican. “I’m very progressive so I find a way on stage to balance it,” he explained. “To not sell out and yet not let the people who voted for Trump feel less than entertained. It’s a real tightrope walk. I enjoy it and it’s because I respect people with dissenting opinions. Something that’s not happening in America right now.”

Kellyanne Conway’s real house in Alpine, New Jersey, looks eerily like the one NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” imagined in a parody earlier this month. The bit fantasized what a day off would be like for her — rollerblading, painting, doing yoga — only to be constantly interrupted by demands for television appearances so that she can try to explain fictitious off-the-wall comments from her boss. In the few short months since becoming Trump’s campaign manager, Conway has become a constant fixture on television — laying out his agenda, talking points and often trying to smooth over Trump controversies. In dedicating...

Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams is a Republican who counts President Bush among his friends, helped deliver the GOP counterpunch at the Democrats' convention and nominated John McCain at the Republican convention. (snip) "He's definitely an up-and-comer. That's recognized by the national party. That's recognized by the McCain campaign," he said, "and so I think that he will be there, and he'll be ready when that opportunity presents itself."

Paul backers won control of GOP confabs in Austin, Victoria. Want a fresh political surprise? How about supporters of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul for president staking a lasting claim in the Republican Party of Texas? As Democrats tussled over their presidential candidates at recent regional conventions, Paul backers unexpectedly took control of a GOP convention in Austin and the Victoria County convention. The results at Travis County's state Senate District 25 convention left old-guard Republicans wondering who lost the party's car keys — and worse. Gail Suttle, active in GOP circles since the 1980s, watched the takeover in horror. Suttle...

SAN ANTONIO - The Republican Party of Texas elected a new vice chairman Saturday, choosing Dr. Robin Armstrong, the first black to hold the position since Reconstruction. Armstrong, an internal medicine doctor from Dickinson, said he grew up in a household of Democrats but became a Republican in 1989 at age 19. His decision was associated with his religious faith, he said, because he became a "born-again believer." "My philosophy is more conservative," Armstrong said, explaining that his opposition to abortion was a key issue in his party choice. He said he has been an active Republican at the local...

As President George W. Bush is preparing to take the oath of office for his second term today, I am reminded of the speech Democrat icon and Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy made to the National Press Club last week. The gist of the speech was that the Democrats have been unsuccessful in conveying their ideas to the voters, hence their continuing losses at the polls. "There is no doubt that we must do a better job of looking within ourselves and speaking out for the principles we believe in and for the values that are the foundation of our actions....
