Senator Schumer kicked off his membership on the Senate Finance Committee yesterday by accusing President Bush of a scheme to "get back at the 'blue states'" through the tax-simplification initiative the White House is preparing.
In a speech delivered to the Association for a Better New York, Mr. Schumer invoked Senator Moynihan, saying he had told Mr. Schumer to "do everything I could to get a seat on the Finance Committee." As a member of that committee, Mr. Schumer said, blocking proposals to eliminate the deductibility on federal returns of state and local income tax would be his "no. 1 priority."
Mr. Schumer said "the state and local deduction is the cash cow the Bush team is looking at to fund a lot of what they want to do" in their tax-reform plan. Repealing that deductibility, Mr. Schumer said, would be a "dagger at the heart of New York."

Eliminating this deduction is not good for me that's for sure.
I can't believe Schumer's against anything that puts more money in the government's hands. Are they really talking about eliminating this???

That's right. President Bush is going to get even with those Blue States.
He is going to lower their taxes.
That will teach them to vote against him.

Chuckie schmuckie Schumer, poor boy, glued to the past and obviously not meant for true leadership that will take Americans to a greater destiny of progress built upon the solid rock of FReedom.

The truth is, half of America is absolutely sucking up every word these idiots are saying.
No, it will not be easy.

Bush can go ahead and eliminate the deductions. That will hopefully put a downward pressure on state and local taxes.

Repealing the deductibility of state and local taxes, New York's senior senator said, would affect all Americans, but would disproportionately harm states with high state and local income taxes. Those, he said, tend to be liberal "blue" states, such as New York and California, which he said provide more in local services. Check this one out

Shumer is just doing a classical liberal projection of his own motivations and actions onto Bush. IOW, this is type of thing he would do against the so-called "red" states...and does do in politics all the time.

Because of New York's heavy state income tax - it has seven brackets, with rates ranging from 4% to 7.7% - not allowing New Yorkers to count that burden against their federal income tax obligation would "create a giant sucking sound as the best and brightest workers, and the most productive companies, face incentives to tear up longstanding roots and move to lower-tax jurisdictions," Mr. Schumer said.Perhaps the "giant sucking sound" should be out of your State's tax coffers, which should cause you to lower taxes and make NY more pro-business. What a concept!

I live in NY so I should be against this. However...
NY is a relatively wealthy state. By eliminating this deduction a subsidy to NY is, in effect, eliminated and more money sent back to the "poor" states.
So, basically, this proposal taxes "the rich," which is what Schumer has always claimed to want.

The quickest way to put downward pressure on State, Local and Federal taxes is to do away with payroll deductions of taxes period.
When people see just what the taxes truly are in one big sum they have to write a check for I gurantee that there will be a huge tax revolt. By the way most people would not even be able to pay those taxes in a lump sum.

For the love of God, take Schumer's crack pipe away from him and drive him to the Betty Ford clinic.
