Five years ago, Linus Torvalds faced a mutiny. The reclusive Finn had taken the lead in creating the Linux computer operating system, with help from thousands of volunteer programmers, and the open-source software had become wildly popular for running Web sites during the dot-com boom. But just as Linux was taking off, some programmers rebelled. Torvalds' insistence on manually reviewing everything that went into the software was creating a logjam, they warned. Unless he changed his ways, they might concoct a rival software package -- a threat that could have crippled Linux. "Everybody knew things were falling apart," recalls Larry McVoy, a programmer who played peacemaker. "Something had to be done."

used to run FC2, not anymore
Another three persons that I know personally over last weekend switched to Firefox.
Tho only reason I haven't switched is the continuing attempt to assure myself that my system is virus and worm-free first.

Knoppix boots from CD and does not require installation on your hard drive and autoconfigures all your hardware.
It's a good thing to have around if your Windows box quits working. Boot Knoppix and you can get on the Internet or rescue important files from your hard drive.
I currently run FC1 on my laptop. I would have upgraded, but I'm in the middle of a fairly large (for 1 person) software project and I now consider it a "production" machine. Once this is finished (in the next month, hopefully), I'm gonna go ahead and upgrade to a 2.6 distro. I may also just wait until FC4 comes out in May.

Just got SUSE 9.2 Pro. I'm going to replace my Mandrake LINUX desktop with it and see how it goes before replacing Mandrake 10.x on my server.

I wasn't directing the Knoppix plug at you. I just like to encourage people who don't know anything about Linux to try it because it is an easy way to try it and Knoppix is cool.
Nah--B2K know what Linux is about. He just doesn't like it. There are others, though, that have no concept of community programming. They feel a product must have a single company behind it--like Windows and MS.

I did last week. So far, so good.
I have Knoppix iso's and run it in a VPC works great.
or and I don't do windows or MAC
I think you can do the same thing with the latest Suse releases.
Never tried it myself, becasue it's so easy to install.
Thanks for the info ShadowAce. Great article. Firefox is working out very well for our computers.
I'm experimenting with the Mepis distribution of Linux and am really impressed with the stability and security it provides.
