But WHY wasn't Passion of the Christ nominated for Best pic?

It wasn't even nominated for Best Foreign Language Picture.

It wasn't even nominated for Best Foreign Language Picture.

It wasn't eligible for that due to some very complicated rules.

I think Spiderman II is the only movie of the lot I saw.

They are all over the place doing disgusting things.

That's been true of Hollywood stars since the first silent film was made in Hollywood.

I really liked it. If you have even been involved in a dramatic production, the jokes make sense. I would have preferred a more renaissance score, but I'm not sure that would have worked better as dramatic support.

Some things were cute, John Webster as the little boy who liked the part where Juliet stabbed herself (vide "The Dutchess of Malfi"), or the guy who stuttered until he appeared on stage (I've know people like that.)

Passion of Christ should have gotten at least two more nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor (James Caviezel).

I can't help but wonder if this is the Academy's way of giving Gibson recognition of just how powerfully compelling that movie was ... but they don't want to be too overt because its so politically incorrect.

No, they don't mind being overt.

Academy voters (disproportionately older, Jewish, and liberal) snubbed the film because they sincerely believe The Passion is anti-Semetic, and they don't want to promote anti-Semetism.

Well I have little respect for English professors or for anyone who spends a career "deconstructing" someone who is dead and can not defend themselves. So we have a disconnect there as well.Yes, but you are right, Hollywood spends a great deal of effort and time trying to rewrite history to that of their own liking.

Yep. I especially thought 'Mary' would get a nod (Maia Morgenstern). She conveyed so much feeling without saying a single thing in English. Just her face, her eyes, her movements.

And, at the very end, the Pieta...

With all the misery and suffering in the world, how can Hollywood hold its annual self-celibratory extravaganza.

That's OK. All the money comes from private donors.

The absolute worst nominee list in recent memory. What a bunch of crap.

No of course, they had to choose the movie with nudity in it. Now don't get me wrong, I quite frankly liked seeing Gweneth Paltrow with her top off, but the movie was not better than "Ryan".

At the same time, as I look at the contenders for best picture, best actor/actress, and best supporting actor/actress, I realize I haven't seen a single one of those movies, nor do I really want to.

You and me both..... waste of money.

I'm wondering how they could overlook the actress (Morgenstern?) who played the Virgin Mary in The Passion for Supporting Actress.

It wasn't history it was historical fiction. No one claimed it was true. Shakespeare re-wrote history as well. Deconstruction is just another word for critical examination.

At least they kept their private life somewhat private. They knew that being a STAR was a job.

F9/11 getting shut out is a big deal. I would have thought that F9/11 would have at least received an nomination for Documentary Feature. Hollywood just slapped Michael Moore hard. It will be interesting to see the spin in the media on the shutout of F9/11. It will also be interesting how the loony left reacts to this slight of M.M.

The Passion of the Christ getting 3 nominations isn't that bad considering that Mel Gibson didn't bother to run a campaign to get the film nominated by the Oscar in any category.
