F9/11 gets nothing.

Poor little rich boy.

Kind of like herpes, except you can avoid herpes.

Jamie Foxx in Ray = Yes
Collateral = No. That's overkill.

"F9/11 gets nothing. Passion of the Christ gets 3"

So, so, so glad F9/11 was snubbed! But WHY wasn't Passion of the Christ nominated for Best pic? Can't wait to watch Michael Moore have his tantrum.....like a fat kid being told he can't have any cake!

I have not even heard of one of the movies nominated for "best Movie". I think the Oscars are a huge joke.

With all the misery and suffering in the world, how can Hollywood hold its annual self-celibratory extravaganza. Better to cancel it and send the money to the tsunami victims.

Hollywood is treading lightly.

Three minor Oscar nominations for TPOTC. I guess also the thought of Michael Moore making an acceptance speech for anything gave them pause.

The Aviator, Sideways and Million Dollar Baby were critical darlings much spoken about.

Cinematagraphy is not minor at all. It's one of the primary arts of the movies.

Actually, the three it got nominated for make a whole lot of sense.

The cinematography of The Passion is astounding. The whole thing feels like a Caravaggio painting.

The musical score that John Debney did for The Passion is nothing short of amazing.

The makeup for The Passion was absolutely vital to it. Making Christ look like a bloody pulp couldn't be easy to do.

I can't help but wonder if this is the Academy's way of giving Gibson recognition of just how powerfully compelling that movie was (and just how much talent it demonstrates), but they don't want to be too overt because its so politically incorrect.

At the same time, as I look at the contenders for best picture, best actor/actress, and best supporting actor/actress, I realize I haven't seen a single one of those movies, nor do I really want to.

The Passion wasn't nominated for Best Picture? Outrageous!
I guess we'll boycott the Oscars this year.
Maybe I'll go out on February 27 and purchase the DVD instead and watch it again.

That is the second time I have heard of these movies. I still think the Oscars, and those who nominate these movies are a huge, huge joke. I may not be a movie student.. but Shakespeare in Love comes to mind here. That was a "critical darling" of a movie too, wasn't it?

Other than best picture the only people that vote on nominees for each category in the Academy are the people that do that in the Academy; the Cinematographers vote on the Cinematography nominees, etc.

I don't think it was a political statement, people in each of those three fields just thought the work in that field was in the top 5.
