When my late mother died, a husband and wife who lived close by told me later they didn't come to the funeral home visitation or the funeral because they would have "felt out of place with all you white people." Somewhere I heard or read where his mother said he told her he'd had to take "anger management" while in Iraq. Anger runs hand in hand with depression. It's possible he had a history of untreated mental disease but what would push someone with a history of psychiatric problems over the edge to commit murder I'll never understand.
I've been wondering it if was a female/racism "thing" .. considering he abducted a white female.
Bush must be one heck of a powerful dude since he's blamed for almost everything.

Do you believe in PTSD? I dated a guy who was a Vietnam vet. His friend had gotten help from the Veterans Hospital but this guy never could be convinced to seek out assistance. After a few cocktails, he would somtimes start remembering his combat days and cry like a baby over the women and children he'd killed. He became extremely upset one night I recall .. but the friend who was with us could never convince him to seek counseling.
I sympathize with this mother, but then she goes on to start putting blame on everyone but her son. That to me is despicable. But then again, isn't that what society is becoming, a blame game?

I have only read the local interview. I don't know what she said on "Good Morning America." I'm sure she's in the denial stage and is grasping at straws to rationalize this horrible event. Someday she may come to realization of the true nature of her son ... surely many things he didn't tell "mama" will come out at trial.
Being a PK (preacher's kid) can, but is not always, an extra burden. His father is a minister. One could theorize all day .. but strict upbringing could result in repressed anger that manifests itself once away from the parental pressure of "being a good boy." Maybe he just decided to rebel in a big, big way...drugs or he was self-medicating the depression. Maybe he was depressed and never got treatment. In some religious circles, admitting to disease or illness shows a weakness in one's faith. (a ridiculous but too widely-held belief)
I'd hate to be that mother. The private pain she has must be unbearable. I do feel for her.
In the mugshot and the footage from Arizona, his facial expression looks rather smug .. almost as if he's bored .. and did you notice the definite frown to his forehead. Contrast that with his military photo and it doesn't look like the same person.
I've wondered why he didn't kill the girl sooner and take off with the truck. It's strange to me that he killed her several hours into the abduction on the side of the road.
It is like it says, he just felt like he had to kill someone or something. This leads me to believe he was on drugs. I mean, to do this awful crime and then hold up a store? Something seriously wrong with this guy. And I do not for one minute believe it had to do with the military or Iraq. That's a copout.

Like what says? What am I missing? Where are you getting that "he felt he had to kill someone or something."
Hey .. he already killed three people in Iraq, according to reports. Shouldn't that be enough?
Maybe Iraq is what drove him over. It could have been the straw the broke the proverbial camel's back.
Or maybe his anger overwhelmed him and he had to "off someone" to appease himself .. or, or, or, or?????????

I guess we all have our tolerance level tho and while someone can withstand the rigors of war and survive and even thrive after dismissal, it hinders others but hopefully not in such a violent way as Williams
Both of my teenage daughters work at a Chili's Restaurant. The management has always been great about making sure none of the female employees walk out alone.
My oldest told me tonight that they called a meeting the day this was reported and reminded them all to never leave the restaurant or any place like this alone.
I was glad that they spent time reminding them of safety procedures, not just at work, but everywhere.
