Foreign secretary says Mexico may ask international courts to block Proposition 200

MEXICO CITY - Mexico may turn to international courts in an effort to block a new Arizona law limiting services to illegal immigrants, Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez said Wednesday. He said in a radio interview that Mexico might take such a step after it has exhausted all possibilities under U.S. law to halt Proposition 200. "We are seeking all the legal opportunities that exist, first using the legal capacities of the United States itself and ... if that does not work, bringing it to international tribunals," Derbez said. advertisement He did not specify to which international bodies Mexico could appeal. Mexico's Foreign Department and lawmakers have repeatedly complained about Proposition 200, which voters approved in November. The measure requires proof of citizenship to vote and proof of immigration status to receive some government benefits. Derbez said the government already has made a verbal protest to the United States and now will file a written protest at the request of Mexican lawmakers. He did not say when it would be issued. He expressed regret that, according to polls, about 40 percent of Mexican-Americans in Arizona had supported the measure. "It's sad and it gives an idea of how we have to work to educate even our own Mexican-Americans about why it is important that these proposals are not accepted," Derbez said. In December, the Foreign Department issued a statement expressing "complete rejection" of the proposition, calling it "a measure that could generate actions of discrimination based on ethnic profile."

That's not the issue IMHO.

The issue is that Mr. Bush is the PRESIDENT and CHIEF EXECUTIVE of the United States. As such, it's his SWORN, CONSTITUTIONAL duty to uphold and enforce American law. ALL American law, not just the parts that he picks and chooses. He's sworn an oath to that effect on the 20th and we all watched him do it.

All kinds of Americans had a problem when Clinton spit on his oaths to uphold the laws of perjury, but they seem to be willing to give President Bush a pass for for not upholding immigration law for some reason.

The law is the law. If Congress didn't want any immigration laws, they could easily repeal them. THey haven't, thus they are still the law of the land.

:)

Preachin to the choir I guess

Godspeed

Just wait til the UN gets their hands on the Law of Sea Treaty. They will be unstopable then, The UN will be able to impose taxes on the American public.

They sure are squealing loud enough...

The oinkin' from the boinkin'.

Derbez is living proof that Mexican politicians are just as stoopid as American politicians.

Let’s just turn his silly fanny into a piñata and pass out pointy sticks.

Its called the FTAA. Mexico is doing just fine without it but our White House and Congress are exceedingly eager to get it passed. Therefore Mexico can demand anything from us in return for their signature on the FTAA. In addition, the OAS and Summit of the Americas which will govern the member states of the FTAA (they are called member states and not countries) are making demands to satisfy the rest of Latin America so they will sign. They are basically giving away the country to get agreements with Mexico and South America to join a western hemispheric trade group.

The irony is that there are starting to be a number of countries in S.A. who are gladly teaming up with China to break away from US domination in the hemisphere. In total violation of the Roosevelt corollary to the Monroe Doctrine the white house has actually approved the widening influence of China through trade and armaments at the APEC summit in Chile a few months ago.

This all is happening because international business interests want these large trade regions, like the EU and the FTAA, so that they can instill what they call "civil government" that is government by global corporations working with NGOs. Elected representation, individual sovereignty, national sovereignty, Constitution or Bill of Rights this culture we take for granted is an anathema to this global plan.

I wish someone would ask these bozos a few questions.
(1)Why should we treat their people, here illegally, better than the Mexican government treats them there? They don't get all those handouts and free education in Mexico. If they did they would not come here.

(2)Why should we treat their trespassers better than they treat trespassers into their country? I'd like to see just one of our elected officials ask what their policy towards illegals is.
