The U.S. Model: For years, much of the world did aspire to the American way of life. But today countries are finding more appealing systems in their own backyards.

Not long ago, the American dream was a global fantasy. Not only Americans saw themselves as a beacon unto nations. So did much of the rest of the world. East Europeans tuned into Radio Free Europe. Chinese students erected a replica of the Statue of Liberty in Tiananmen Square.

BN 12 ROUNDS FIRE FOR EFFECT. HE, PD FUSE 0 DELAY,CHARGE 8

Now I have to disagree. I would have used FUSE VT, and followed up with WP to complete the old "shake and bake".

I guess it is just a matter of style. :-)

After the ZOT again! These admins are too quick. I'd love to have a manservant of my own.

Oh.

Emphasis on that 'man' part. Nevermind, as you were.

Nearly all countries reject the United States' right to bear arms as a quirky and dangerous anachronism

This is a good illustration of why our country's form of government is designed to keep a stupid opinion held by a majority of the population from becoming enshrined in law.

"You had only to listen to George W. Bush's Inaugural Address last week (invoking "freedom" and "liberty" 49 times) to appreciate just how deeply Americans still believe in this founding myth."
Uh... I think the MILLIONS and MILLIONS of foreigners who annually immigrate both legally and illegally into the US might also believe in just such a "myth" as well. Feh.

I don't understand what opinion or who the majority is supposed to be. Help me out.

Hmmm, any idea where that picture came from?

I find it interesting that it is being hosted on another site as I'm the one who originally created it.

Actually I did. First used it on a ZOT thread in May 2004. It's a GIF I created from a scene in Trinity & Beyond. The file was originally named "AtomicAnnie.gif" but its size drained my bandwidth too fast so I had to stop using it.

I was thinking about foolish opinions in general, but what provoked the thought was that quote about how a majority of people in other countries were of the opinion that firearm ownership by individuals was a bad idea. Here, we have the concept that our rights are not subject to the whim of the majority (in theory, at least).
