I asked what would happen if a policeman stopped me while my license is "alarmed." She said "it's not legally binding, no one will cite you."
It seems that when all the cards were entered into the computer, no one entered my name change.
She did give great directions to the SS office.
I guess I'm legal now. I have a letter that says I've changed my name.
Sorry for the redundancy and spelling, I hit the wrong button. Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on the computer people.
The young man at the SS said he'd only seen a similar case once before - And it was another old card like mine.
Thanks, Kid.
Oh, my. I still have my original ss card, and it's in my maiden name. Just celebrated my 30th anniversary, as well.
I've never heard of a problem with a drivers license, but I did have a problem with the IRS. No refund until all the names matched.
You're lucky. Did you see the ost here the other day about a lady whe aplied for a job at Target and they refused her because she already worked there? Her social security # was being used at 37 OTHER employers too!
Makes me wonder if that is the real reason the gov. doesn't want to stop illegal immigration, or establish privatized accounts, because they're collecting 15% social security taxes on all these people that they don't have to declare in your name! Under the table as it were.
