PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: It's snowing in Washington today. The President and First Lady attended St. John's Church this morning before heading back to the White House to continue monitoring events in Iraq.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

In great numbers, and under great risk, Iraqis have shown their commitment to democracy. By participating in free elections, the Iraqi people have firmly rejected the anti-democratic ideology of the terrorists. They have refused to be intimidated by thugs and assassins. And they have demonstrated the kind of courage that is always the foundation of self-government.

Some Iraqis were killed while exercising their rights as citizens. We also mourn the American and British military personnel who lost their lives today. Their sacrifices were made in a vital cause of freedom, peace in a troubled region, and a more secure future for us all.

On behalf of the American people, I congratulate the people of Iraq on this great and historic achievement.

President George W. Bush, speaking to the American people from the White House today.

Here is a link to the complete transcript of the President's Statement on the Iraqi Election.

Here is President Bush in a nutshell....

George W. Bush understands that the office he holds is not about him and his immense respect for it, is what helps him handle his day to day responsibilities as the POTUS. His steadfast belief in personal liberty is what makes up his belief in an ownership society here in the U.S. It's his belief in freedom is what shapes his foreign policy, and through Grace, he finds the strength to make it happen

**People like that can never see beyond themselves.**

How true and this is why you have a great President and Vice President because it is not about them but serving others, the pursuit of freedom, loyalty and duty to their country and getting the job done not receiving credit and kudos from the media. God Bless them both.

Now it is really goodnight from me.

"Jumped the shark" isn't local, unless you mean it's American. It's American slang that comes from a comedy TV show in years past. The show was extremely popular for years. But in one of the later episodes, the most popular character, The Fonz, jumped over a shark. The show was never the same after that, and its plots became increasingly silly. It's widely believed that the 'jump the shark' moment is the moment that the show went bad.

Hence, the moment when someone or something goes irretrievably wrong and is never the same is called a 'jump the shark' moment.

The Q&A with President Bush on CSPAN is on now. I seen this on the net a few days ago. It was really nice.

I think it was everything he could do to keep from bursting out into a BIG Texas sized grin! That's exactly how I saw it

I watched it, too, and I could just hear "neener-neener-neener!!!"

I would imagine our troops are very proud tonight, and they should be. They have liberated 50 million people from tyranny in 3 years and ousted two despotic regimes.

I couldn't be more proud of our soldiers, sailor, airmen, Marines and coasties if every single one of them was my flesh-and-blood child.

I read your post twice to make sure I was understanding it, and I got it eggzackery right but I rephrased my reply to reflect it in a different way.

Your post actually does make sense if you look at it with irony.

By helping to protect our nation, Mike and Eric (and all of our brave troopers) have helped free two other nations . . . it doesn't get much better than that!!

I'll second that! It doesn't get better!

Did you notice, Mike, that in his monumental statement yesterday about the Iraqi election, that he never ONCE mentioned that he, himself, had anything to do with it.

Humility that comes from his walk with God.............remarkable.

I am so thrilled and touched by the turnout for the elections in spite of the danger. Freedom WILL reign in the Middle East, thanks to George W. Bush. This will go down in history as a great victory for Iraq and for America. God bless America. God bless Iraq!

What a great day Sunday was! "Historic" doesn't quite capture its significance. To see photos of Iraqis standing in line, defying threats of violence, to exercise their newly-won right to vote and decide the direction of their nation left me speechless, and with tears in my eyes. To hear reports of our troops in Iraq high-fiving each other and slapping each other on the back because of the Iraqi election created that rare experience of pure joy. To see photos of Iraqi expatriots voting in Damascus, where the citizens of Damascus themselves cannot vote for their own government, one begins to get a fuller appreciation for the wisdom of Pres. Bush's policy of planting democracy in the Middle East. Forget WMDs and all the other justifications for toppling Saddam. What we saw this weekend was the real reason we took down that tyrant.

I'm so grateful we have a President who is guided by convictions, who does what he knows is right, and who ignores the naysayers and the defeatists. Naysayers and defeatists have never contributed anything positive to history. Pres. Bush can continue doing what he knows is right, and can ignore his opponents, and he should. The left has never supported a person of true principle, so they don't know the power of conviction and courage. I read recently that the "establishment" in Washington still doesn't really know or understand George W. Bush. I don't think they have within themselves the capability to understand a person of integrity, principle, and dedication to what is right.
