Faculty urges United Way boycott - Hamilton College teachers upset with Boy Scouts' position on gays
Utica Observer-Dispatch ^ | October 2, 2002 | Cecilia Le

Driven by concern about discimination by the Boy Scouts, Hamilton College faculty members are encouraging the college to stop giving institutional support to the United Way of Greater Utica. The faculty passed the motion unanimously at its Oct. 1 meeting. United Way funds the local Boy Scouts chapter, as well as about 70 other nonprofit organizations. "A lot of us have been concerned and very upset about the Boy Scouts' explicit discrimination against gay boys and men," said government professor Stephen Orvis, who presented the motion. No attendance was taken at the meeting, but Orvis said more than 100 faculty were present. The college has about 150 faculty members..........

This is old news, but might shed a little light on what's going on at Hamilton.

As a member of a family that has contributed substantially to Hamilton in the past, I sincerely hope that pressure can be brought to bear that will put this once fine institution back on track.

Withholding monetary contributions usually gets ones attention.

Cut off the money, and said track may be lighted once more.

IMHO, withholding money from the corrupt, wasteful United Way is a good thing!

Those who donate to UW are wasting most of their donation.

I agree. Donate your money directly to the organization whose work you wish to support. The United Way is almost as corrupt as the United Nations.

United Way is not a "funding organization" in the sense that they do not provide their own money to specific causes. Rather, they are a processing house for distributing collected donations. Their "process" is what is getting everyone p.o'ed as they dole out the collected donations as they see fit. If everyone stopped sending their dollars to the United Way and gave directly to the charity of their choice, this crud would go away in a heartbeat.

There you have it, folks: sodomy before charity.

I shudder to think what organizations the UW supports, but I'm sure the Hamilton faculty would wholeheartedly agree with 99% of them. But if one single beneficiary steps out of line, to heck with all the others! I love it when libs turn on each other.

BTW, I notice this article is 2 years old. Has anyone heard any update on that situation?

The gay community at Hamilton has always had its eyes on the 12-16 year old boys that are available to them through scouting.

NOW I know why my Dad always asked if I had my Scout hand ax when going to Jamborees back east. I sometimes think that Rod Serling is running popular culture, today.

Those who donate to UW are wasting most of their donation.

And I might add, in many areas of the country your donations also support planned parenthood.

It's not Boy Scout's position on Gays that bothers me. It's Gays positioning on Boy Scouts. (Sorry. Mongo Bad. Couldn't resist.)

Do you people ever have anything positive or of value to say about a gay person?

Sure, but not about their pederastic interest in members of the Boy Scout troops they aspire to lead.
