I've analyzed the spending by both parties in the Senate race. With the exception of Pennsylvania, the Democrats spent 50% more on the Senate races. Democratic candidates were financially non-competitive in only 6 races, whereas the Republicans were financially non-competitive in twelve. Republicans were 17-4 in states where they were financially competitive. Republicans won four states where they were significantly outfunded by their opposition; Democrats won none.
None of this data includes independent expenditures and "issues advertising" which was virtually exclusively Democratic. Money raised but not spent is not included
[These results exclude the Pennsyvlania race, because the FEC data they were compiled from did not distinguish between primary and general elections; Arlen Specter relied mostly on liberal sources to vastly outspend his conservative challenger. He spent $17 million in the primaries; in the election, both he and his challenger spent about $4 million. In other cases, money spent during the primaries was counted, but money spent by primary opponents was not. Candidates who did not spend significant amounts of money were not counted, but candidates who did spend significant amounts of money, but who were still not financially competitive were counted. Since the point of the story is fundraising, unpaid loans taken by the candidate were excluded if they were a significant source of funds.]
Candidates with significant cash reserves, which would help them in re-election, but more significantly in a 2008 run, include:
Dick Shelby (R-AL), 11.2M
Evan Bayh (D-IN), 6.6M
Ted Kennedy (D-MA), 4.2M
Hillary Clinton (D-NY), 5.3M
Charles Schumer (D-NY), 10.0M
Kay Hutchinson (R-TX), 6.7M
And, of course, John Kerry (D-MA), 23M

Plenty of money but no message, or at least no positive message.
That is a lot of very expensive WHINE.
Remeber 4 years ago, when the GOP outspent the Dems? The press was contstantly shreiking about how money had corrupted the process. Now they have fallen silent.. How strange.
I doubt the GOP actually outspent the Dems 4 years ago, either.
Anyone want to take a guess what Shelby is planning to do with all that moolah? He is an aging Senator in a safe, Reoublican seat. He is a committee chairman, but he's not really a big shot in the GOP party structure. Can't figure he's got presidential ambitions. (He doesn't, does he?) And he's sitting on the biggest warchest besides Kerry. Any guesses?
The 'rats spent heavily and lost just as heavily. I love it when a plan comes together.
I think that's called "pouring hard, cold cash down the sh*tter!". LOL.
Hehehe, me too. Well, at least they can feel good about unloading themselves of those greebacks, and enriching the liberal media. Wealth redistribution at it's finest. Soaking those poor dog-food eating democrats.. oh wait, they are the smarter ones, and the more talented ones right?, and sending their pennies to the pockets of Billionaire Soros enterprises...HAAAAAAAA... OHHHHHHHHH, SWEET MYSTERY OF LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many seats would they have lost without spending all that money?
I'd bet Republicans could've competed very strongly in WI, CA, WA, IA, CO, ND and NV if they could've matched Democrats dollar for dollar.
Exactly. Democrats spent a significant amount of time after the November election complaining that they lost because they didn't get their message out. I think Americans heard their message loud and clear.
:) You got it!! Yes, Madeline Kahn played the part, sang the song, quite nicely too. (One of my favorite movies of all time...)
What hump?
....sorry, not to digress....

That entry clearly illustrates and confirms the complete invisibility of the actual Republican candidate, er ... <crickets> ... </crickets> right, Bill Jones.
yeah, and the way they're acting, they're going into 2006 trying to figure out what color to paint the same pig we didn't buy this time.
And then preparing to run the pig in '08!
Abby, I think, Abby Normal...
