Good to know what not to buy anymore. I'm Dixie Chicking this bunch.
I remember seeing Silver Dollar city, as a 15 year old, in the spring of '83, I came down there, witha church youth group, and we went through Pigeon Forge. It was NOT nearly as built up as now ,and Severiville was barely on the map.
Question:: didn't Silver Dollar city, have a major accident, with one of its roller coasters, a derailment, or something,(Kind of like happened here, at Kings island, a couple of decades back, with the "bat", which, BTW, has been "reborn", since '93, as "Top Gun") which helped it end up in Dolly's hands? it seems like I heard something about that, 20 years ago, or thereabouts.
Excellent comments, well thought out and expressed.
I don't know if I agree in every particular, but your scenario is better than just about any other proposed.
Something has to happen to turn this around. Or there probably will be some severe reactions that no one will like.
nullification. states rights. hurrah!
Dolly went round the bend in my opinion with several of her artistic endeavors. I appreciate her God given talent for singing but she is a marketing person. Good judgement doesn't seem to be her strongest point but in her mind, she is standing up for what she believes. I don't have to support her. Emmy Lou is very talented in singing too, but I can live without her. The rest, who cares? Not me. Ironically, homosexual advocates have access to so much money anyway. Homosexuals are said to be some of the highest wage earners. They really don't need the help. It makes the celebs feel superior.
I hear you, but for a Country/Western star to refuse to publically anounce a favorite is similar to a Hollywoodite to do the same -- it creates suspicion that that they don't follow what is accpeted to be norms in their respected communities. Now of course this isn't necessarily true, and I for one respect it when a celebrity refrains from using their star-status as a soapbox and perhaps feels a genuine desire to not get in the face of some of their fans who are on the opposite side, like Tom Cruise did last year.
And I also don't think Nashville and the Country music community is as conservative as it used to be. Witness Tim McGraw's support for Kerry and his desire to resurrect the Democrats in the South as proof that liberalism no longer hurts you in Nashville, if it ever did. Witness also CMT's programming and its left-friendly commentary from those 'critics' when it does one of those best-of list shows. But having said that, to be an open conservative and GOP-supporter is not a bad thing in Nashville and it won't hurt your standing with the Country Music establishment.
As for Mandy Moore; I see what you're saying, but I don't think a general desire to not be embroiled in politics was the motivation for her agent's comments. Rather, I think it was a fear of being associated with the wrong type of politics that struck fear in her camp. I don't know this for a fact, but I'd be willing to bet that one could find her name associated with some form of public support for Kerry last year. Also, her performance in that indie movie last year where she played the typical Hollywood caricatures of an Evangelical Christian as being a mean-spirited hypocrite was also a pretty good sign of her ideology. Maybe its why Andy Roddick dumped her.
I don't remember any such, but it could be. I haven't been to SDC since "Fire in the Hole" was the only roller coaster. If they have more I don't know what they are.
When I used to roam SDC the biggest and best ride was the steam train. Of course, when I used to roam SDC I would spend most of my time following Ellie May McCoy around. :)
Shalom.
Say it aint so! Tim McGraw a liberal. Oh well. Keep your hat on, Tim, but maybe it is choking your blood flow.
I heard he let Epstein or some other gay guy working w/them hit it once. You ever heard that?
The people around celebrities often turn into the same kinds of idiots, too. The human psyche cannot handle a lot of attention--feed that ego enough, and it will grow monstrous.
No surprise about Dave Koz being on this CD. He is gay.
(This is from Smooth Jazz Vibes, the online jazz magazine ...)
DAVE KOZ ANNOUNCES THAT HES GAY
Dave Koz, one of the most visible stars in smooth jazz, announced in the April 27 edition of Advocate magazine that he is gay and that its time to get to the next plateau. Its a big deal, and its not a big deal, the saxophonist told the national gay and lesbian magazine. For the most part, Ive been out in my personal life and even in my professional life to a degree. A few days before the magazine hit the newsstands, Koz posted a statement on his Web site, davekoz.com, about the article. "I'm proud and happy to share another side of who I am and what I do, he wrote. As I move through this life, I have found that it's increasingly all about peeling back the layers, speaking the truth, and striving for authenticity. This is an inspiring and powerful moment for me, and I've certainly learned a lot getting here. I am most definitely looking forward to where this road leads and I do hope you'll enjoy taking the ride with me."
I love Silver Dollar City, use to go there when we went skiing on Table Rock Lake in my youth. Sad too hear Dolly owns it now, my kid will have to miss that little venture.
If Yoko One had married Luigi Nono and written a piece for nine instruments using themes from a famous musical, we could have had the:
Yoko Ono Nono No No Nannette Nonette
Well, he might object to the term liberal. I'm sure he thinks of himself as a 'moderate' as most people do, and indeed I wouldn't doubt that he is indeed not a full-blown liberal like all of his Hollywood pals.
The interview with him that I base this own was from Ent Weekly, and in it he expressed his discontent with the outcome of the election.
Now of course, displeasure with Bush need not be limited to the Left, and indeed many conservatives only voted for him because Kerry would have been infinitely worse, but McGraw also stated admiration for Clinton and a possible desire to run for the Senate in Tennesse someday. When the interviewer said that maybe he could bring back the Dems in the South, McGraw replied that yes, ideally he could.
My guess is that he is a 'moderate' who would give lip service to Tennessee conservatism on social issues while relying on the Courts to do his dirty work for him, as is the general strategy for the Democratic/Left today.
But yeah, he is a good singer. I thought he deserved that CMA award for 'Live like you were dying.' But his ranking on CMT's greatest men of Country music was a joke. Higher than Travis Tritt? I think not!
I think Nashville is more conservative than what it used to be. The big stars arent liberals like Cash, Nelson,Kristofferson and the other names from the sixties.
She must be a good actress, then.
Dolly appeared with Rosie O'Donnell several months ago in support of gay marriage - before the elections. This CD was no surprise to me.
Hi Rca2000,
I live in the Knoxville area, and can tell you that there are some nice alternatives for you if you like the mountains. Check out Tennessee's Pickett State Park. It's on the TN/Kentucky border between Oneida and Jamestown.
Not much shopping (or restaurants, or anything else) in this area, but if your family likes the outdoors, they'll love it. The park has many options on cabins, chalets, etc., to rent (if you reserve them early) and the prices are reasonable.
The 17,000 acre park borders the 100,000 acre "Big South Fork Wild and Scenic River area". The scenery is wonderful, with scenic overlooks, great hiking trails, several natural bridges and stone arches, etc.
More info can be found at: http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/parks/Pickett/
