YES, I KNOW KERRY SAID 'DELIVERED WEAPONS TO THE KHMER ROUGE'
NRO ^ | 1/31/05 | jim geraghty

Many TKS readers are asking about this odd comment by Kerry:

SEN. KERRY: I still have the hat that he gave me, and I hope the guy would come out of the woodwork and say, "I'm the guy who went up with John Kerry. We delivered weapons to the Khmer Rouge on the coastline of Cambodia." Actually, looking back at the original article in which Kerry mentions the lucky hat, Kerry didn't quite specify the purpose of his mission with the man who wore the hat.

A close associate hints: There's a secret compartment in Kerry's briefcase. He carries the black attaché everywhere. Asked about it on several occasions, Kerry brushed it aside. Finally, trapped in an interview, he exhaled and clicked open his case.

"Who told you?" he demanded as he reached inside. "My friends don't know about this."

The hat was a little mildewy. The green camouflage was fading, the seams fraying.

"My good luck hat," Kerry said, happy to see it. "Given to me by a CIA guy as we went in for a special mission in Cambodia."

Kerry put on the hat, pulling the brim over his forehead. His blue button-down shirt and tie clashed with the camouflage. He pointed his finger and raised his thumb, creating an imaginary gun. He looked silly, yet suddenly his campaign message was clear: Citizen-soldier. Linking patriotism to public service. It wasn't complex after all; it was Kerry.

He smiled and aimed his finger: "Pow."

Of course, Kerry has said "I remember what it was like to be shot at by the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians," suggesting that he was being shot at by the Khmer Rouge.

But James Robbins of NRO wondered about this:

could Kerry have come under fire from the Khmer Rouge and Cambodians? At the very least one wonders how he knew the identity of those who were shooting at him. The claim of having faced off with the Khmer Rouge is most suspect. In the period in question, Pol Pot's band was not very large, and was based mainly in the mountains in the northeast corner of the country. The Khmer Rouge did not become a major fighting force until 1970, when with Chinese and North Vietnamese support, they expanded from a few thousand to 100,000 fighters. Instapundit looked at the Khmer Rouge claims during the campaign, with many links.

The Powerline guys looked into this and concluded, "Different sources assign different dates to the beginning of military action by the Khmer Rouge, but we've seen no support for the proposition that the Khmer Rouge were in the field (as opposed to existing as a political organization) in January 1969."

Short version: I have no idea why Senator Kerry claimed on Sunday to have been on a mission to ferry weapons to the Khmer Rouge, the Communist army under the direction of Pol Pot.

He has never been.

But, he almost was...President. Had the Bin Laden tape not surfaced the weekend before the election, I strongly believe Kerry would have been elected. But the tape reminded enough people that the WoT and threat of Bin Laden were real that they voted for Bush.

Considering the whole of the world of knowledge we have about Kerry, I am in wonderment at how Kerry came so close to almost winning. That is truly scary.

The Swift Boat Vets are right. Kerry lied and continues to lie about his 4 months in Vietnam. If Kerry didn't lie he would have released his records during the campaign. He would have won votes. Now, what is in it for Kerry to release his records? The records would prove again that Kerry lied. Russert is still a biased Democrat.

Since Nam, John Kerry has shoveled such a voluminous pile of bullsh*t in hope of creating a "hero," that not even Kerry himself is capable of sifting through it to find a shred of truth.

I have a friend with the same disease Kerry has. If you tell a story he isnt happy until he tells a bigger one. He cant tell which stories are lies, and which arent he tells them so often. In Kerrys mind these stories are probably true. but only in his mind.

What kind of dementia is this man suffering from?

Kerry clearly displays symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Deep down he must loath himself. So he fabricates his entire life story to puff himself up, become the focus of attention, be adored by others. He cannot answer a straight question on MTP without internal contradictions, because he is paralyzed when confronted by the need to choose a single story. He'd rather keep all possible life stories available for future use. He has no straight answer nor any core beliefs other than getting people to think he's a hero.

The Swifties punctured him mortally. Pundits on the left kept asking why Kerry didn't "fight back" harder when attacked by the Swifties. Kerry himself says the lesson he learned is that he didn't "fight" back hard enough. When asked whether he'd sign the 180, his response was childlike "I'll do it if THEY do it first. Nah nah nah!" As if the swifties were seeking to be elected President. No, the truth was, as we all know, Kerry couldn't fight back because he had nothing but lies to fight with, and all the facts and evidence would kill him in a manner more significant than any bullet from a drunken South Vietnamese soldier's rifle.

The country dodged a big bullet with this election. Kerry is no more a narcissist than Clinton or Gore, picking and choosing their personalities, but where Clinton is a high functioning personality-challenged human, say 8 on a 10 point scale, and Gore a 5, Kerry barely rates a 2.

Brutal analysis. And probably 100% right.

"I dont' know why he feels compelled to lie?"
the same reason Bill and Hillary Clinton lie so much- he thinks it is to his advantage -keeps you busy running after the last story- only this guy is not as cagey. He has led an imaginary life - one he could not really carry out so he borrows others stories for himself. A sad case.I always wonder if the Dems are thinking this about the right all the time and it makes them crazy. But then again- they have Dan Rather on their side........

Let's face it. Kerry is so full of SH*T, that were he to be given an enema, all that would remain would easily fit into a matchbox.

Pure and simple.

THANK GOD and the American electorate that PRESIDENT BUSH was re-elected.

I agree. I think many first time voters made the difference this time around ... I was one of them ... and I'm dumfounded that Kerry received even ONE vote.

geez this idiot spent FOUR WHOLE MONTHS in Viet Nam... got transferred out by collecting 3 purple hearts for scratches WITHIN that 4 months...

The 3 least earned yet more proudly displayed medals since Johnsons 'medal of valor' for flying on a helicopter once.

I am in wonderment at how Kerry came so close to almost winning.

Because the pansy-ass, weak-kneed, ball-less, gutless, clueless trust-fund babies running the Bush campaign. They NEVER ONCE REFUTED A KERRY LIE ABOUT BUSH'S AGENDA.

Kerry told lies about himself, CBS told lies about Bush, and it was ordinary people (such as Buckhead here on FR) who exposed the truth.

It was not the Bush campaign.

Mr. Kerry, if you still have your CIA cyanide capsule in case you were captured, would you please now take it.

I know the type. I can do anything better than you. It has a lot to do with ego and deep rooted inferior problems only a professional could sort out. John Kerry is not 100% in touch with reality and has problems between facts and fiction. He may believe his own make believe stories!

It was not the Bush campaign.

I agree with that.

While the Libs were voting 'Anybody But Bush', the other side were voting 'Anybody But Kerry'.

What's interesting and scary is that the Dems and leftists in general are so attracted to these narcissistic politicians. It's just a variation on the left's fascination with dictators and cult of personality trumping liberty.

The Democrats piled on layers and layers of Bush hate. The hatred was the only thing that Kerry had to gain votes.
Many of the people voting for Kerry, would have voted for
just about anyone other than Bush.

Perhaps the Khmer Rouge were our friends until they met Kerry -- then became our enemies?
