STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

Posted on 02/02/2005 3:43:44 PM PST by Timeout

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.

Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).

Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.

Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.

Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

Do you really? Eww, no, not me. Even though they might be good threads, I just don't wanna wade through that many days after the fact.

Why would Laura Ingraham be on HARDBALL, I ask. But she was brilliant, and funny....and she really tweeked Matthews good telling him things were different now..gently in other words, he didn't know what he was talking about. Well, Matthews couldn't send her off without zinging her back. She was scheduled for only one segment, with Scarborough, Howard Fineman and Matthews. So as he told her "thanks for coming", he had to make a "now it's time for the grown-ups" comment. She laughed, but I guarantee she knew she (the only female), had just been dissed by a very envious man.

What is it with Matthews and conservative women? They must really make him feel insecure.

No more than one mention of borders, deficits or outsourcing...something along those lines?

I'll second that. And now that you've mentioned them, any further mention of those issues is now forbidden. :-)

I hope they aren't fake, that would mean she actually chose them :)

Yeah, take a close look at them. They look like they're made of wax, and her ear lobs are about 4x the size of normal lobs.

I hope none of the blue fingers are on Congressmen. They haven't earned the honor of walking around with a blue index finger. It just cheapens the whole moment (Iraq elections).

Speaking about polls, here is a nice little thread to browse while you're waiting for the SOTU that mentions Laura Bush's approval rating is at 71% (which I consider lower than she deserves): Tell Laura we love her

"...Here's hoping that President Bush holds up an ink stained index finger and points it at the Special K twins from MA...."

Would it be inappropriate to suggest the use of another finger on his left hand? Perhaps the one adjacent to the index finger? I think that would send the quintessential message.

I really hope there isn't much attention brought to the ink stained finger.

I said the same thing earlier.

It's one thing if a bunch of citizens paint their fingers tomorrow in a sign of solidarity. I think that might be kind of cool.

And it would be wonderful to see an Iraqi in the audience hold up her finger. But if Congress tries it, they'll just look like they're trying to hog some of the limelight earned by the courageous Iraqis. It's liable to backfire.

Thanks, Howlin, I knew you wouldn't let us down!

I have great regard for President Bush as leader of the free world, to continue on this remarkable road toward freedom for the oppressed and enslaved.

In many ways what he is doing to reform our legal, retirement and other government/ non-government systems is in a sense freeing the oppressed taxpayer from the burdens of the nanny state.

I'm really looking forward to this speech.
