"Merabishvili pointed out that Zhvaniya was on a visit to Raul Yusupov, Vice-Governor of Kvemo Kartly territory, who also died of natural-gas poisoning.

The Minister said the Premier's guards, who stayed outdoors, grew worried when the Prime Minister did not respond to telephone calls for a long time. So, the guards decided to break down the door of the apartment at about 04:30. They found the bodies of the Prime Minister and the Vice-Governor. Merabishvili said, "This was an accident caused by a natural-gas leak from an Iranian-made gas heater".

Zhvaniya was married and is survived by three children."

There was no evidence of foul play, forensic experts said. Tests showed Zhvania's blood contained fatal levels of a substance called carboxihaemoglobin, said Justice Ministry official Levan Samkharauli.

"That means that the cause of death was carbon monoxide gas," he said. A post mortem report is expected on Friday.

Gas poisoning is common in Georgia, mainly caused by the heaters run off gas canisters that people use in winter, when power supplies are erratic.

There is a fair amount of speculation in "the community" (intelligence) that George Soros "got out" of Hungary with the aid of the KGB or GRU (or the then current incarnations of those organizations). Here is one web site that is typical of the information floating around about this:

http://www.rense.com/general61/thecaseofgeorgesoros.htm

Yuri Andropov was the KGB operative in charge of Hungary for the Soviet Union in the early 50s and, even though Soros left before that time, Andropov would have had a hand in running any operatives that had come out of there.

Andropov was always seen as a "forward looking" major operator with long running plans for attackin the west. It's why he eventually ended up as head of the KGB and then head of the Soviet Union.

It is known that Andropov favored recruiting Eastern Europeans, particularly young people, who the KGB then sponsored as "refugees escaping to the west." Some of them were captured over the years, some of them defected. Some of them are doubtless still at large, but never really did anything except take an excuse to get out of their countries. And some are still undoubtedly in place, doing what they were put in place to do. These would be the idological agents. The "true believers."

It is not proven, but widely believed that Soros has been operating to a master plan set during Andropov's reign as KGB chief and later as head of the Soviet Union.

According to this theory Soros was activated as an operative within the western financial infrastructure and given funding and specific targets that the KGB would help to destabalize or otherwise manipulate to Soros' advantage. This achieved two goals: disrupting key western financial and business operations that the KGB particularly wanted targeted (either to just mess with them, or to influence them in some other way, such as forcing their own people into key spots); by aiding Soros' financial machinations he was becoming more and more influential within the capitalist enemy camp.

The comment about John Kerry stems from similar speculation. It is absolutely unquestioned that Kerry and the VVAW were doing the KGBs bidding with extensive KGB funding and influence. We know this for a fact from KGB and other Soviet block intelligence services that revealed most of their stuff after the fall of the Soviet Union.

It is NOT established that all of the members of VVAW, including Kerry, were doing this knowingly. They may have just been idiots. Although I'm not impressed with Kerry's intellect (witness the "we were running guns to the Khmer Rouge" comment this last Sunday) I don't think he's an idiot. I think he knew. Further, incidental, connections lead me to belive that he was part of the same type of KGB operation as is speculated about Soros. Yuri Andropov was in charge of all of the KGBs (non military) operations against America in the Vietnam war.

Thus, Yuri's boys.

But he turned against Mr Shevardnadze and played a prominent role in the 2003 Rose Revolution which swept him from power in a wave of popular protest.

Shevardnadze at least survived two assassination attempts.

What I wonder is whether or not Putin thinks he can really make Russia respected in the west or if he even cares either way.

I doubt it. He's not making any effort to work with us in a productive way. It seems that everything he says or does is a slap in the face to the west. I guess it's once KGB, always KGB.
