Proverbs 29:2

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.

TOPICS: Culture/Society
KEYWORDS: military; pray; prayer; prayforbushlist; presidentbush; troops
O Lord,

How we do rejoice! Because of the righteousness and vision of our godly President, a new nation has been born and a people have begun the walk down the path of self-government and freedom, following in the footsteps of their brothers in Afghanistan. We praise You for the work You have done in and through George W. Bush for the good of our nation and of the world. We know that he, like all of us, is a sinner subject to human frailty; but because he has given his life to You and accepted Your Son as his Savior, he has taken on the traits of those adopted into Your kingdom. He hears Your voice; he studies Your word; he seeks Your will; and he strives to carry out Your purposes for his life. Lord, we are grateful for the wisdom and foresight You have bestowed upon him and we praise You for raising up such a leader at this troubled time in history. Continue to lead and guide him in his life and in this presidency. We are also grateful for our First Lady, an example of grace and beauty for us all. Bless them and their marriage and guard them from all harm.

Father, we were deeply touched at the State of the Union speech when Safia Taleb al-Suhail embraced the parents of Sergeant Byron Norwood, who had given his life for the noble cause of freedom in Iraq. We were reminded of the horrors of the deposed dictatorship of Iraq and just how meaningful the election this past weekend must be to a people who suffered for decades under a brutal dictator. We saw the pride that Safia felt for her country and her great joy that her country is now free. Her humility and realization of the suffering of others to bring about this freedom were touching to behold. And we saw the pain of sacrifice felt by the families of heroes. We felt great sadness and yet renewed awareness of just how precious liberty is. Lord, comfort the Norwood family and all those who have lost loved ones in this war against forces of evil. Touch those who have been injured with Your healing hands. Place in the hearts of all Americans a deep sense of gratitude for our men and women in uniform and their families.

There is much that is wrong in our nation today, Father, and we seek Your forgiveness for our transgressions. Let us strive to aspire once again to greatness through the reverence for life that You instilled in our forefathers and through a desire to obey Your commmandments and follow the narrow path of righteousness. Let us abandon our selfish and immoral ways and be a nation of principles and faith, serving the living God who has blessed us richly in manifold ways. In the precious Name of Jesus. Amen.

Welcome to Free Republic. Looking for prayer early in the morning is acceptable as well.

Joining you in rejoicing over the magnificence of our Great King.

Father, we continue to ask You to call intercessors to pray for the President and our nation. When we think of those who have given their lives for our freedom, taking the time to pray or fast seems so little.

Bless our President with wisdom, courage, faovr, protection and success in all he sets his hand to.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful words of Prayer with the rest of us who aren't so eloquent...Words DO Mean Something and they can be very powerful.
