Letter of thanks from Prime Minister Allawi
US Embassy-Baghdad ^ | 2/1/05 | Prime Minister Allawi

REPUBLIC OF IRAQ
PrimeMinster Office

His Excellency John Negroponte
Ambassador of the United States of America Baghdad

I February 2005

(Dear John)

I know that you share my personal pride over the resounding success of Iraq's first ever truly democratic elections last Sunday. Iraq could not have done this alone.

The role of the United States military and her allies is well-known. They once again played a proud and central role on Sunday, and I have written to General Casey to thank him. But I would equally like to put on record my thanks and admiration for all your support, and that of many hundreds of civilians - both in your Embassy here in Baghdad and back in the United States - who have helped Iraq since liberation.

Their commitment and dedication to this country has been not just a help but also an inspiration to many Iraqis, as we have struggled to recover from decades of tyranny and mismanagement. There are few in the Iraqi Government who have not been helped directly or indirectly by someone from your Embassy or that of your close allies.

As I say, we could not have done it alone. On behalf of the Iraqi people, please pass on my thanks to all those hundreds of brave men and women who have lived through these difficult times to help my country. We are hugely grateful.

~-~ Ayad H. Allawi
Prime Minister
Republic of Iraq

I thought freepers would like to see this letter from Prime Minister Allawi. My hubby's company is working in Iraq helping the Iraqi's rebuild the country infrastructure. One of the guys sent a copy back home because he was sure we wouldn't see it in the NYTimes or MSM.

Circular URL points back to freerepublic.

Do you have one pointing to the source? I looked at the Embassy website, and there was nothing there.

Sorry - the letter was sent as an adobe attachment in the personal email to my hubby. This was the only way I knew to post it. If it shows up on their company website, I'll put the link up. His company is Parsons.com - here's the Iraqi/Parsons site which gives info on the type of work they are doing: http://www.parsonsiraq.com/english/default.asp

Bill, hubby's friend, indicated in his email that the US Embassy shared the letter with American companies working in Iraq.

Thanks, let's hope this sense of appreciation spreads. We will have succeeded when Iraqis begin to think about the freedom of all Arabs, not just their own.
