Rodman Strips for PETA Ad at Fashion Week

Often his own fashion statement on the basketball court, Dennis Rodman made one at New York Fashion Week, revealing all in an ad for PETA.

The tattoo-resplendent former NBA star appears nude, in profile, in the celebrity anti-fur ad for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Rodman's 6-foot-8 presence appears with the slogan, "Think Ink, Not Mink: Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin and Let Animals Keep Theirs."

"I'm very against people mistreating animals in any fashion," Rodman told The Associated Press Monday.

Rodman, 43, who has sported hair in a rainbow of colors and once appeared at a New York bookstore to sign autographs in a wedding dress, said he gained "a totally different perspective" after watching a PETA video.

"I'm not ashamed to show my body," he added.

"We are very happy to work with PETA," said Fern Mallis, executive director of 7th on Sixth and the lead organizer of New York Fashion Week. "We think that everybody's position and point of view should be heard. We wanted to do it in a peaceful, productive way ... no more violence and paint on the runway and damaging or harming people's property."

"This is a democracy," she added. "Everybody's entitled to their opinion and to wear what they like."

The billboard ad — unveiled Monday at the tents that house invitation-only designer runway shows at Bryant Park this week — will appear in Hollywood, Calif., and New York in the next few weeks.

In past years, PETA members have disrupted events and protested designers who use animal hides in their clothing lines. But that began to change in 2003, when PETA joined Fashion Week and presented its own line, designed by Gaelyn & Cianfarani, to draw attention to animal-friendly collections.

PETA spokesman Michael McGraw called the collaboration "an indefinite truce" and praised organizers for helping to coordinate Monday's event.

"It will allow us to get our anti-fur message precisely to those who need to see it," he said.

"This is a democracy," she added.

I wish people would stop believing that since it isn't SUPPOSED to be true.

It occured to me that when I described Canseco and Rodman as "has-beens," I could also have called them ex-Madonna boyfriends. But that doesn't really narrow things down much, now does it?

Does Dennis Rodman ever do anything worthwhile for anyone other than himself? Good Lord, how can I ask such a question? Shame on me.

You know, I think that if the shoe were on the other foot(or paw or hoof), as it were, the animals would be wearing human skin for coats and shoes and belts, and wouldn't be the least bit concerned about it.

But then, that's just one man's opinion.

Next!

LL Bean is a good company but you should buy your jackets from Cabelas instead. LL now uses synthetic fur ruffs around their hoods while at Cabelas you can get genuine coyote ruffs on a parka for about the same price. The real coyote fur is better and warmer.

There are no PETA chapters in northern Siberia I bet.

Dennis is a liberal.

I'm shocked.

Didn't he support the campaign for education, liberty for all, the President, and guns for all?

Or was that just in the movies and the basketball court?

Well, he could have been a teacher or a pilot, or policeman, but he chose basketball,

Such a service to the public, and without a doubt we look up to his words of wisdom one and all.

For Dennis is my hero, also OJ, yes and Kobe, cause I love one and all.

But we're missing Oj Simpson, that's right here in the hood we call him the "granddady of all"

Wait, I'm missing brother Shrapton, Reverend Jackson, no not Michael; I've no time for you all.

Stop, there's others... Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Langston Hughes..What you mean?

There's no time for educ

YOu are exactly correct.

I love the TV ad for Trivial Pursuit (90's Version) that shows several parts of US culture from the 90's climbing out of an underground time capsule.

There's the Taco Bell chihuahua and the masked guy from "Scream".

But leading the way is that old has-been, Dennis Rodman.

WHen a TV ad lumps you with "trivia" from the 90's, and Tammy Faye Baker, you know you're washed up.

Actually, you know, it would not be such a bad idea if Dennis Rodman were to wash up.
