Email to Congressman Sensenbrenner
February 8, 2005 | Michael Katz

To the honorable Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr.:

As you know, President Bush has only allocated for an increase of 210 border agents in the budget he recently sent to Congress, even though the immigration act signed earlier in the year calls for a 2000 a year increase over a 5 year period. From what I am aware, Congress can fudge around with the budget accordingly. Are you going to try to increase the number of new agents funded by Congress over what Bush allocated and is there anyone else we can contact to make this number increase to what the intelligence bill initial asked for? Thanks for your help. Good luck with your REAL bill. Hopefully after it passes the House, the Senate won't chicken out from passing a necessary immigration reform bill. I appreciate all the effort you have spent trying to protect our borders!

Anyone else that wants to contact him and encourage him to push for Congress to increase the number of new border agents in the budget please do so at sensenbrenner@mail.house.gov. Who else can we contact? I hope there is not a terrorist attack on our country because of our unprotected border. How would Bush defend himself if one were to occur when he chose to fund only 210 new border agents when the bill he signed and is supposed to enforce said they need to fund 2000 new border guards a year? 1790 not funded that were supposed to. This is the one area where I would protest in the streets against Bush!

He only needs to increase it by 10 men. 10 men can implace approximately 300 "bouncing betty" anti-personnel mines per day. Spread them out to get more bang for the buck, and it will solve the problem.

Welcome to Free Republic. Being new, perhaps you didn't know the background of the website you linked to on your post. From The Wall Street Journal:

"In fact, CIS, FAIR, NumbersUSA, Project-USA and more than a half-dozen similar groups that Republicans have become disturbingly comfy with, were founded or funded (or both) by John Tanton, a retired doctor in Michigan. In addition to trying to stop immigration to the U.S., appropriate population-control measures for Dr. Tanton and his network include promoting China's one-child policy, sterilizing Third World women and wider use of RU-486.

"FAIR, where Mr. Krikorian once worked, is run by Dan Stein and shares advisers and personnel with CIS and other members of the Tanton nexus. As our Jason Riley noted in a March op-ed, "By Dr. Tanton's own reckoning, FAIR has received more than $1.5 million from the Pioneer Fund, a white-supremacist outfit devoted to racial purity through eugenics." "

Please don't think that I'm implying that you are a racist. Some of the anti-immigration sites are very deceptive. There's lots of money to be made from solicititng people who are afraid of immigrants.

"Congress can fudge around with the budget"

Congress has absolute authority over the budget.

What you seem to think is that the prez makes his budget requests in a vacuum. He is in close contact with the House as to what they want. Bush didn't ask for the 2000 x 5 years because he knows that the appropriators didn't want to spend the money.

Once again, Congress has absolute authority.

When you hear Sensenbrenner or Tancredo complaing about Ridge's statement, they are only politically posturing.
