"Gay" penguins spark protest

BERLIN (Reuters) - A plan by a German zoo to test the sexual appetites of a group of suspected homosexual penguins has sparked outrage among gay and lesbian groups, who fear zookeepers might force them to turn straight.
"All sorts of gay and lesbian associations have been e-mailing and calling in to protest," said a spokesman for the zoo in the northwestern city of Bremerhaven on Friday.
He said the zoo concluded the penguins might be gay after seeing male penguins trying to mate with other males and trying to hatch offspring out of stones.
German media reported that female Swedish penguins would be brought to the zoo to test the theory, but when word got out about the plan, the phones started ringing.
"Nobody here is trying to break-up same sex pairs by force," the zoo's director Heike Kueck told public broadcaster NDR. "We don't know if the three male pairs are really gay or just got together because of a lack of females."
When you've hit rock bottom, I suppose.
Meanwhile, those same people will be the first to protest if the penguins fail to mate and the species goes extinct.
"Sorry there's no more pandas. Turns out they were all gay."
God,that's funny.
Next they'll be teaching the little penguins that it's perfectly normal to be a gay penguin.

I've always wondered about what prompts people to go into certain professions. At what point does a medical student decide "Hey, I want to be a proctologist." Or, what goes through the mind of someone who wants to become a Corrections Officer? ("Hmm... Locked up all day long with hundreds, if not thousands, of murderers, rapists and other assorted scum who would love nothing more than to stick a shiv in me. Where do I sign up!")

These people don't know how to pick their fights wisely. In the grand scheme of things, this will only weaken their case, making them look as idiotic as they really are.

Has PETA stepped in yet to protect the poor penguins from the homophobes? Will they replace the rocks they're sitting on with little stuffed penguins? Do penguin condoms exist? Will the gay community adopt tuxedos to show their solidarity with the gay birds? Will the right wing now say that penguin cartoon characters are all gay? Opus? Chilly Willie?
