I love you too, but I choose not to die by inhaling other people's cigarette smoke. That's if I have any choice about it, of course.

"We are very happy with the decision," said James L. Bikoff of Silverberg Goldman & Bikoff in Washington D.C., who represents the dealers.

Well, it will take time to get this repealed.  Thank God.

You're right, and the tabacco and tubes are not taxed as ciggs are, (YET) My better half has been doing that for a couple years too.

When they start going after Dell and IBM and Apple I will pay attention and not until then.

First they came for the Communists,
  and I didn’t speak up,
    because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
  and I didn’t speak up,
    because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
  and I didn’t speak up,
    because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.

NOW the phones of "Skip Humphrey" Attorneys are ringing off the hook!

Ahhh it's no secret that I roll my own. I have mentioned this MANY times over the past 4 years.

Other FReepers kept at me for a long time until I gave in. And I have never been sorry and have never looked back.

The status quo is that there is a hefty tax on cigarettes. It is built into the budget. Therefore the money that does not come from cigarette tax has to come from somewhere else. I don't think I'm mixed up--just taxed enough already.

How do you choose your path?

When did you come to the realization that you, and you alone, were the mapper of your destiny?

So the correct logic is, find a subgroup that you don't belong to that is easy to demonize and apply the taxes to them?

You're right, and the tabacco and tubes are not taxed as ciggs are, (YET) My better half has been doing that for a couple years too.

I pay $5.75 for a bag of tobacco at the Smoke Shop in town, and that includes a surcharge.

IF the state every did decide to actually TAX these products, aside from the surcharge, it would still take YEARS to get the taxes up to what Maine is charging for one carton of cigarettes.

So where did you go?

Georgia. Republicans across the board now (except in the pathetic county I live in).

San Francisco is the home of the wicked *itch of the West -- Pelousy. You'd never find me in the land of the fruits and nuts if I could avoid it. Another state with taxes that are way too high.

Therefore they are the thieves, not me.

Would you call consumers thieves, if they went across the border to buy at Wal-mart ie?

Ah, poor baby.  Do you wear a mask around town to avoid all those exhaust fumes from the vendors trucks and cabs?

First they raise the taxes on cigarettes to confiscatory levels to ostensibly deter smoking, THEN they scream that they're losing Revenue.

They would be amusing if they weren't so blatantly stupid.

by the way firebrand,

There is absolutely NO, Zilch, Zero, Nadda, evidence that second hand smoke is any risk at all to people. In fact you inhale the same levels of any toxins in any number of things that are in every city, home, and office building every day.
