Panel on Political TV Ends in Shouting

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A panel discussion on whether cable debate shows like CNN's recently canceled "Crossfire" have screamed themselves out of business ended in - what else - a shouting match.

Panelists including comedian Janeane Garofalo, conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham and former White House press secretary Joe Lockhart were alternately cheered and jeered at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival Saturday.

Garofalo rankled some audience members with her comment that not only does "the Republican message dominate the public conversation, but that in my opinion, 90 percent of it is false."

Ingraham retorted, "The American left is so unwilling to look inward to see what's wrong with their party."

The format may be part of the problem, said panel moderator Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC's "Scarborough Country."

"If we had 1 1/2 hours to debate Iraq, we'd have had a more nuanced discussion. How do you debate Iraq in three-and-one-half minutes?" he said.

I wish the word "nuanced" would be banned from the English language.

"Panelists including comedian Janeane Garofalo, conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham"

Uh Did they expect anything other than a shouting match?

I wont say it because unless it was posted between late afternoon and now, I haven't read it.

Thanks for the posting. I'll listen to Laura tomorrow, she will have a lot to say about it.

Agreed. And "tolerance." Or "discern, vision or justice" when uttered by anyone ordained.

Just what I was going to ask--whether it would be on C-Span--

maybe Joe Scarborough will show some of it on his show, if not.

I can't wait to hear Laura Ingraham tomorrow---she has made so much fun of Garafalo in the past, this is gonna be good.

Dang, I wish we could see it---

Interesting. Go to the AP link and the article has a picture of Gawd-she's-awful. Not of Laura. Which proves once again- Libs have no taste in women.

They seem to have neglected to use the "L" word when describing Janeane. I'm sure it's just an oversight. Couldn't have anything to do with the fact that "comedian" sounds so much friendlier without the additional modifier, "liberal."
