Alan Keyes' Daughter Coming Out
CBS News ^ | February 14, 2005

Posted on 02/14/2005 12:32:30 AM PST by RWR8189

(CBS) The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.

Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day's rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.

Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."

"It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical," she told the Washington Post. "It was really kind of unpleasant."

Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.

Keyes' Web site says he is against "the homosexual rights agenda, including same-sex marriage."

Marcel-Keyes grew up in Darnestown, Md., attended a conservative Catholic school for girls in McLean, Va., spent a year in the south of India advocating tribal rights, and plans to attend Brown University this fall, according to an Equality Maryland press release.

Furmansky told CBSNews.com that Marcel-Keyes would not be speaking to the media ahead of Monday's rally, and probably not afterward, either.

Bloggers have identified her Web site as http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=Xmisled0youthX. The author of the blog says it is public and she has nothing to hide.

Here's the rub - you wasted three duplicate posts when you
could have addressed your humanistic diatribe to "all"
The problem you seem to ignore is that homosexuality is and
will ever be "unnatural" a violation of the laws of Nature
dictated by God himself, and an affront to Natures God--as
written in Scripture. You appear to assume that Scripture
or faith ought be left outand we ought place modern science above Scripture? And that seems illogic at best and anti-Christian at the other end of the equation.

I know people who have married, had children, and divorced living with same sex relationships now. Not just one or two, but many.

And are you open that the cause of Maya's current problem may be that she was somehow a victim of abuse?

It's possible. Lot's of things are possible. But judging from what we know, the Keyes are taking the right approach.

While it may be something of a choice, it's not liberals advancing this theory of abuse may be linked to homosexuality, but rather conservative christians. Hardly a liberal perspective.

To much of this is happening to young folks who have had the proper faith based education and come from strong faith based families as has Maya

What, exactly, is "too much" and what objective data do you have that establishes it?

The best families sometimes rear rebellious children. According to Scripture, Adam and Eve's firstborn was a murderer.

Kitty Kelly reported that Ron Jr.'s first lover was the ex-wife of Michael Landon. A friend told Nancy and she was relieved by the news.

I grieve for Keyes. He always spoke with almost reverence in his love for his daughter and this must be an extremely bitter trial for him and his wife. She's a beautiful girl and, as I remember her, very feminine in her appearance.

Going to Brown is a red flag that this child has been recruited. Much like Dick Gephardt's daughter, the gay movement probably targeted her and worked at recruiting her. Gephardt's daughter was married to a doctor when she was befriended by a fellow social work graduate student at Wash U who helped her "discover" the "fact" that she was not heterosexual.

It wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't a set-up and I think the Keyes family is justified in holding her to the same standards he holds others and making her shape up.

"coming out" is a euphemism for crying uncle for back up from the gay community as a mean for legitimized cover for most perverted and disgusting behaviors. These people do not seek forgiveness but power and pimps to protect their statuses.

What does n't seem to mesh is you ignore the science that
explains the phenom you cite as example. We are Created
male or female--and Science does NOT suggest otherwise.
Your example doesn't suggest there is any other than
male or female. It does suggest there are individuals who
for some reason a genetic scientist could explain better than I were genetically affected in some ways. But they are
not male and female- but either male or female. You seem to confuse appearance with reality.

Excellent point. The triggering abuse or seduction doesn't have to come from a parent.

She can't love her parents that much or she would have stayed in the closet.

After what Keyes said about Cheney's daughter, Maya has got to be loving rubbing his face in it.

Of course, Keyes shows just how much he loves his daughter as he kicks her out of the house.

It most certainly does. This whole incident kind of shows you the difference between real Christians, like the Cheneys, who love their daughter no matter what, and phonies, like the Keyes, who are too busy throwing stones in glass houses.

The very opposite is the truth as spoken by Jesus himself. The Cheneys apparently love their daughter more than the Lord.

(Tying on my amateur psychologist's hat here...)

My guess is that Maya Keyes, Phyllis Schlafley's son, and Ronnie Reagan the Lesser (even if he isn't gay) are all taking revenge on their parents for not paying enough attention to them as children.

Great a man as Ronald Reagan was, I get the impression --from Michael Reagan and others-- that he was not an attentive father. (FDR was a terrible father, btw. His children were so damaged, they ended up having something like 20 divorces amongst the 5 of them.)

RR was tirelessly devoted to his spouse (#1) and his country (#2); everything else in his life seemed to have to take a back seat. Something had to give, and it was Patti's and Ronnie's loss -- but our country's gain.

I suspect there was a similar dynamic in the Keyes and Schlafley households. Maybe someday Maya and Ronnie will grow up and get over it -- though little Ronnie is getting a tad long in the tooth for that.

Cool your jets, there, girl.

Now what's this about how "he treats his daughter"? How old is this daughter, hmmmm? First, none of my kids still live under my roof at that age. Second, they all pay their own way through college. We also have household rules. I suspect the Keyes household is no different on that score.

She chooses a lifestyle that her parents find abhorrent and do not choose to have under their roof. THAT is their right, sweetie.

No one said a word about them not loving her. My guess is Dad would gladly lay down his life for her, any time, any place.

BTW......I'm a dad of seven, including two daughters. I think I understand the "fatherhood" issues involved here very, very well.
