Eason Jordan: Castro is the Father of CNN International
Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University ^ | March 10, 1999 | Eason Jordan

Posted on 02/14/2005 4:48:51 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

In a 1999 lecture at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University, former CNN Chief News Executive Eason Jordan told the audience that CNN International was directly inspired by Fidel Castro:

I thank you very much for being here tonight. Let me also thank Fidel Castro. In the earliest days of CNN, when CNN was meant to be seen only in the United States, the enterprising Fidel Castro was pirating and watching CNN in Cuba. Fidel was intrigued by CNN. He wanted to meet the person responsible. So Ted Turner, who at that point had never traveled to a Communist country or knowingly met a Communist, [went to Havana]. It was big deal for Ted and during the discussions Castro suggested that CNN be made available to the entire world. In fact it was that seed, that idea that grew into CNN International, which is now seen in every country and territory on the planet.

I wonder what could have attracted Fidel Castro so strongly to CNN?

ha ha you have to take personal responsibility when you spray wine or beer or coffee all over the keyboard.... no matter how good the post, everyone has to be responsible for their own keyboard.... anyway, I sprayed my coffee on the monitor screen, so it wipes off easily..... :^)

LOL, cyncooper!!

You see, it's all about "business", harumph. And CNN is still so darned furious about that embargo on Cuba. Money makes ze verld go a'wound..

Capitalism without morals is thuggery. It is corrupt. It was either at Easongate or at Jay Nordlinger's I read Eason also has said there's no such thing as "impartial news.". If so, it is perfectly spoken as coming from someone who adheres to the mantra of "capitalism sans morality". Meaning, the news therefore must be PARTIAL. Which is, of course, right along the brainwave and brainchild of those who write revisionist history for educational purposes.

Ward Churchill is a perfect example of this: US Military "deliberately" giving smallpox infected blankets to Indians, long ago. The premise is that the US heretofore has only published History from the perspective of the "US Military" but not "the infected Indians".

Of course, one is supposed to assume that the data concerning whether or not the blankets were DELIBERATELY infected wasn't long ago researched and reported as *fact*. Oh no.. we are to be a shapeshifters and just imagine what long-ago dead might have said... in contrast.

The left sees these modern authors (newsmakers) as "luminaries"; I refer to them as shapeshifters.

And it is clear the MSM belongs in the shapeshifter category in regards to HOW it reports the news; as it seeks to form a new "future" through "shaping" the news. And in review of simply the last 10 years of "shaping"; and the MSM's continual reliance upon so-called "academic" publications which are of the "shape-shifting" category... I suppose one could reason that the MSM is entirely within its rights to be "partial" about how it shapes the news. But shouldn't it just call itself "partial" instead of pretending to "objectivity"?

If all news rooms hire only "shapeshifters", if all colleges only hire academics of the "shapeshifting" persuasion, it can hardly call itself "news".

It's no longer news.

It's activist.

So what does the MSM ad nauseum propose as solution: Quotas! WRONG!

That's where all this is headed back to, if you ask me.

There can never be "quota's" that will ever accomplish what they set out to obtain or reach for. Humans aren't so niftily "categorized".

What organizations can try for is truth, and fair accounting. The MSM and Academic Institutes, and so many organizations aren't even trying.

It will be interesting to see if Fox can have the same success internationally that they have had domestically in the competition with CNN. If they do then we can all thank Fidel. LOL

Are you kidding?!

I wouldn't care but some faux freepers have been weeping about Jeff Gannon not having the "proper credentials" to be in a press briefing, yet Eason ran a whole worldwide news channel.

Not the least bit surprised. Although there was another failed bid to bridge Turner's Socialism with Communism, through what he called The Goodwill Games. Started in the Reagan era and Reagan's presidency outlasted the Goodwill Games because Communism in Russia had been defeated.

Having been overseas and watching CNN International, I can believe that Uncle Fidel is the inspiration -- and probably the head writer too.

I still recall being in Europe watching them play their Tail Wind lies over and over and over. I doubt they ever did much of a retraction over there the way they were forced to do here. I doubt the international feed announced the "resignations" of Arnet and his motly Marxist crew.

It's no damn wonder the Europeans think the US military is monsters. This targeting journalist crap from Jordan is typical of what they do and how they loathe the US military. If I were Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, I would return the favor and issue an order that any officer or senior NCO who as much as gives the time of day to any CNN propagandist will be promptly busted to PFC. Screw those creeps. They ain't the only game in town anymore.
