Washington, DC, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association of America, has used the Conservative Political Actions Conference as a forum to harshly criticize U.N. efforts to reduce the amount of small arms in the hand of civilians.
At the same day the U.N. Security Council debated its actions to implement sanctions and arms embargoes, LaPierre accused the United Nations of denying U.S. citizens the right to bear arms. His speech, filled with open distain toward the international organization, concluded, "Others here may suggest the U.S. to get out of the U.N. Right now I just want the U.N. to get out of the U.S."
Meanwhile Stuart Holliday, alternate U.S. representative in the United Nations for Special Political Affairs, welcomed U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan's report on small arms, calling the weapon-confiscation programs a relatively modest investment that could lead to large dividends in threat reduction.
In his speech Thursday LaPierre claimed the United Nations was responsible for allowing the genocide in Rwanda and its corruption and domination by dictators. He directly linked the U.N. firearms-reduction programs to the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that allows people in the United States to own guns: "If you take away the right to bear arms, all other freedoms are at risk and, in time, lost. But confiscating civilian firearms worldwide is a major mission of the U.N. right now. That's why I want the U.N. out of the U.S."
LaPierre added, "Why does the National Rifle Association care about the United Nations? Because the U.N. is out to destroy firearm freedom -- the one freedom that preserves all the others."
Reaching the peak of his speech, LaPierre said: "The U.N. is the world's wealthiest and most organized enemy...

Wayne needs to figure out how to keep assault weapons out of the hands of American Muslims...that and explain how on earth they supported Howard Dean in Vermont.
That's the problem with one issue orgs...
That's a good start, but I want us to get out of the U.N. more than I want them to get out of the U.S. After we're out, then we can boot them out of the U.S.
If the US throws Kofi in jail for corruption in the Oil-for-Food-Program, I think the UN would quietly fold its tent and steal away to France or Germany or Sweden.
Unfortunately the chance of that happening is slim to none.
and the UN's document on arms control is almost word for word a copy of Hitlers...and the method:
Step one: registration
Step two: collection - hand over or get shot
Step 3: Invade the unarmed country
Yep, Kofi, we'll fall for this one.
LaPierre said: "The U.N. is the world's wealthiest and most organized enemy of the very freedoms our nation can offer all mankind.
Hopefully, the NRA will keep it up and it'll catch on. the politicians don't want to buck against the NRA - it's a start...now is the time to let our voices be heard too...scare the bejeebers out of the politicians
How many "assault weapons" did muslims use on 9/11? If you need a hint, it was less than one.
For that matter how many "assault weapons" have they ever used for any other act of terrorism? Answer is still zero unless you consider a pantload of explosives an assault weapon.
NRA support for Dean is right and proper given that they are a single issue group and since he did not run for governor on an anti-2nd ammendment platform. That attitude keeps the repubs. honest.
yep. The bad guys will use whatever's at hand to kill - in Rwanda they used machetes and locked people in buildings and burned them - etc...
who does Kofi and his ilk think they are fooling...
but do you get a sense that they are in panic mode now and trying to rush things as the fire gets hotter under their feet?
Betcha arms sales will go up :O)
No thanks!
but do you get a sense that they are in panic mode now and trying to rush things as the fire gets hotter under their feet?
Yes
"If the US throws Kofi in jail for corruption in the Oil-for-Food-Program"
Doesn't he have diplomatic immunity???
And I've seen the debate between Peters and LaPierre.
I was shocked that Peters was so open about it.
I don't think the US has the authority to do anything to anyone in the UN except to stop paying taxes to that criminal organization. Eventually I expect to see the UN move to Brussels, Belgium.
Unfortunately the chance of that happening is slim to none.
Yeah, I do think you're right about that. As long as President Bush thinks the UN is great, he will just keep giving them more of our tax dollars.
It will take the U.N. to get my 45.....

Unfortunately, there are many NGO'S working hand in hand with the U.N. to disarm the world. Especially the U.S. I was surprised to see several churches tied in with the NGO'S. It seems that many pastors are supporting gun control too. They are just uninformed, but the U.N. is the real danger.
The U.N. couldn't invade anyone. They have no armed forces.
The REAL problem is in D.C. in OUR own government. As long as they keep signing these traitorous treaties with the U.N. nothing will change. Yelling at our congress critters is the best LEGAL thing we can do at this time.
Every leftist in China and Europe hopes that such myopic behavior succeeds, too. Because if the U.S. "gets out of" the UN, then the U.S. can't veto UN weapons confiscation programs that China, Europe, and South America will gladly fund.
Getting the U.S. out of the UN sounds good at your local bar, but in practice it just amounts to surrendering our UN veto without a fight.
That's not clever.
Without our tax dollars, those UN vetos are a moot point. Because without our tax dollars, the UN doesn't exist. Without our military support, the UN has no teeth. Without our membership, the UN has no legitimacy.
Your argument about keeping our veto power is bull. The US makes the UN a reality. Without us, it withers and dies. As it deserves.
