ON SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING...WIDESPREAD HEAVY RAIN IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE REGION AS A STRONG UPPER LOW DEVELOPS OFF THE COAST.
A year of record rainfall has pushed downtown Los Angeles' totals to 28.55 inches since July 1, marking its seventh wettest season, said NWS forecaster Curt Kaplan. The record, 38.18 inches, was set in 1883-1884.
Los Angeles city workers look over a sinkhole caused by the heavy rains along Tujunga Avenue in Sun Valley area of Los Angeles February 19, 2005. A stalled winter storm began moving onshore the previous evening, drenching previously soaked hillsides and filling drainage channels. Rainfall totals in southern California this winter have exceeded the Pacific Northwest.
Large sheets of plastic are used to help prevent erosion around hillside homes as forecast of rain continues Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in the Studio City section of Los Angeles. Powerful thunderstorms hammered already saturated Southern California on Saturday with soaking rain and hail, flooding roads and homes, knocking out power to thousands of customers and raising the threat of mudslides.
Burbank firefighters survey the damage after heavy rains caused the roof of a Virgin Megastore to collapse in Burbank February 18, 2004. No one was injured when an estimated 15,000 gallons of water flooded the store, causing at least $100,000 damage to the structure. Southern California is bracing for heavy rains and more weather-related disasters as a slow-moving storm front comes onshore after stalling over the Pacific Ocean.
Global Warming and Bush are to blame.
My buddy from Seattle was down here this weekend....he said he couldnt believe how much was coming down. It has been a while since I lived in Seattle, but I remember remember the steady, weeks long rain rather than downpours.
I lived in the Bay Area for awhile and the Winter Storm Season was one storm after another for a couple of months each year. Looks like that's what's happening again. We've got a heavy snowstorm here in Mich. maybe to be followed by freezing rain. Ugh!
You should see the clouds over the beach here in Ventura.
Ominous? You betcha!
So, ten more inches and we break the record...they are saying 3 to 5 tonight.....
darkening clouds ping
There are some Hollywood people getting hit...those homes in Studio City are filled with entertainment industry people.
Before the global warming crowd points to CA as evidence of global warming, what happened in 1883-1884 to cause so much rain?
Hey - don't hog all that stuff. We need some fresh powder to go boarding on up here! Another ten or fifteen feet would be just great. Tell those clouds to keep moving north.
I think Big Bear got 30 inches yesterday?
Please, take it back, take all of it, we'll send it back to you, free, no charge, right, Karl? There's no place for this water to go...
Something this way cometh...
I did some more things on the roof that were suggested by my general contractor friend.
They were good thoughts and also could have been the reason why it leaked.
Pick a number, there are a gazillion ways for a roof to leak.
BKarl, it has been dry here since 11am yesterday morning.
I think when we focused on your personal storm cell, it hit you and those to the north/east...
Nothing at all yet here except for some sprinkles.
Thank you, I think, Karl. I almost wish I had not looked at the satellite images. I grew up with regular rain and thunderstorms, not this kind of stuff. Thanks for the ping and please ping me when you hear more.
