i'm so tired of educators blaming the lack of money that i could puke.

they can retire their lavishly paid consultants,

trim their administrators to the bone,

fire union sub-standard teachers,

get rid of the union,

put their stupid sex and feel-good stuff on dvd's and send it home with the kids for parental review,

and fine parents that are not involved in their children's education.

Putting more money into schools while allowing the kids and liberals to run them is throwing money down a toilet.

The liberals and public school teachers descended on the Oregon State Capitol today demanding more money from the proposed budget. The TV stations were showing school busses converging on Salem. Our tax dollars paying for students and parents to go to the capitol. The governor proposes to give schools 56% of the budget. The teachers and liberal parents say that it is not enough.

ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM!!!

Man, I just can't believe we continue to discuss the problem of education in California and the only answer anyone can think of is "more money"!

We have a boy in Auburn California that wants to wear "Alice Cooper" eyeliner to school and when he was reprimanded by the principal, his single mother and the ACLU jumped in and is suing the school.

We have teachers' unions pumping millions into the campaigns of the people who determine their salaries.. this is freaking nuts!!!

The teachers' unions come on TV and whine that the schools are only getting a 5% raise when they were supposed to get a 7% raise.. and call it a *cut*, but would they give up a few bucks to help the kids... hell no!!!

The situation is out of control. Public schools were a great idea about 100 years ago but they are way past their prime. By making them public, we now have made discipline impossible because schools have to be "tolerant" and they have to teach "diversity" and everything except the 3Rs.

The craziest part, EVERYONE KNOWS IT and yet it just keeps going on, and on and on.... If I could figure out how to spell Howard Dean's scream, I would put it here!!!

AAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggghhhhh!!!!

As Milton Friedman has pointed out, every time a beaurocrat is shown to be getting terrible results despite spending tons of money their answer is to ask for more money. They always claim that with just a little more money it would be different.

All I know is that Texas teachers dread getting transfers in from CA because they are so far behind. It's very sad.

Exodus: Is It Time To Leave Public Schools Behind?

I think it is time for all good parents to leave the public school party and help bring it down into a final collapse.

More money will mean worse results. How many years has it been like that? Twenty? More?

The bad news for Mr. O'Connell is that taxpayers and voters are wising up. The education establishment has, in the past, repeatedly asked for more money with promises of better performance and they have been consistent only in disappointing us.

This can be generalized to apply to any state.

A state could spend $100,000.00 per student per year and it would make little difference.

The bloated, Peter Principle in action bureaucracy and the NEA will see to that.

Had the federal government carried out its responsibility to stop illegal immigration and addressed the issues of legal immigration, California taxpayers would not be facing the massive expense of providing thousands of new classrooms. Discussing the need for more school facilities without also discussing the main source for that need, therefore, misleads the public by artificially limiting the scope of the problem and the field of possible solutions.

25% of the students statewide are English Language Learners (40% in LAUSD according to Superintendent Roy Romer). Most, but not all of the English Language Learners are illegal immigrants or the children of illegal immigrants. This results in the children of U.S. Citizens being shortchanged by approximately $11.6 Billion. Say goodbye to counselors, nurses, field trips, music education, P.E., and art; U.S. Citizens can no longer expect their children to have the things that they had in school. If you are fortunate, you have a PTA that spends all year to raise the funds to pay for the things that the school budget used to provide. But, like the lottery, the more money that comes from the PTA, the more money the politicians and state school system takes from your local school.

In 2003-04, about 305,000 LAUSD students were native Spanish speakers, about 94 percent of the district's students learning English as a second language. Their Academic Performance Index, is below average and they repesent 65% of the dropouts in the district and those who stay are are among the lowest scorers on the California High School Exit Exam. Only 53 percent of passed the math portion, and 57 percent passed the language portion. Compare this to the other students in the district, 85 percent passed the math portion and 88 percent the language portion.

The growth in the number of these students in the last dacade has doubled accounting for the district's entire population growth, according to the Department of Education.

The Foreign-born in CA is now 27% and is to increase to 29.8% of state population by 2030.

Forty-one percent of all immigrants to California settle in Los Angeles, another 9 percent in Orange County. More than 16,000 immigrants settled in one zip code in Burbank, a suburban city in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, and more than 25,000 new immigrants settled in two zip codes in San Francisco.

The newcomers will not be expected to pay for their education but these taxes will levied on the established native residences. The country of Orange with fewer illegal immigrants for example keeps less of the tax dollars while LA county receives more tax dollars than paid. The natives of California, who had but the sculls system, only to have it be destroyed and levied huge taxes in return have had it!

Its not the quantity of our children's education that should matter with what we spend on their behalf. Its the quality of the education. Are we getting good quality instruction for half the budget set aside annually for education? Most Californians would say NO. Liberals like Jack O'Connell don't quite get it. They keep suckering us with talk things will get better if only they had still more money. Wow - with all the money they have now, its stunning no one even bothers to ask the obvious question: are our kids being equipped with the tools and skills they need to succeed in life?? You'd think our politicians would know the answer.
