this is one of the stupidest "51st state" ideas i've ever heard, reminds me of people who want to make new zealand an australian state (ugh).
Thank you for your post, and your inadvertent but appreciated re-affirmation of my pride in the nation I was born and raised in.
Despite the efforts of the socialists/communists/new-world-orderists, we Canadian conservatives think that we ARE starting to turn the tide. Only our next two federal elections will tell, but there IS some progress being made.
yeah I know all about the problems in the Philippines. My fiance is living in illigan city and im planning on going there this year to get married if I can come up with enough money. (I hope this year she is starting to get ticked off its been 5 years and I still havent managedto make it there yet. )But luckily thats pretty far north away from the hot spots. The only thing I would really haveto worry about up there is the branches of the pentegon kidnapping gang and the other main kidnapping for profit gang whos name escapes me at the moment. But I heard from reliable sources that i can grease the right palms and get a gun permit pretty much instantly. So I should be alright for the month or two that I will be up there.

The Abu Sayyaf, one of 29 terrorist organizations on the State Department's watchlist, is a militant Islamic group based primarily in the southern Philippine islands of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

No
Our problem is too many states, not too few.
No. For all the preceeding reasons.
No.
I want western Canada, Greenland, Antarctica and Siberia.
That would be cool :-)
The big drawback to this is that the Fillipinos do not want to be a state of our country. The chance to make that happen was before 1933 and they turned it down then and opted for independence. They are a proud nation and it is highly doubtful they would vote to become a state.
That was my first thought. The Philippines? Why would we want it? What a mess.
HELL NO!!.... got enough muslim problems as it is
Mabuhay! This is an interesting idea. I'm trying to figure out how it benefits the U.S., though.
How about a trade? They can have (parts of) California.
San Francisco for Boracay. We'll keep Yosemite, and they can keep Manila.
<< ... the Philippines is ...located north of Malaysia, Australia and Indonesia in the Pacific Ocean ... >>
Indonesia and Malaysia last time I flew back and forth among them all several thousand times for a living were nowhere near the Pacific Ocean and were essentially West of the Philippines.
And last time I checked, also, [And this despite that it's easy to harbor serious doubts about the left coast, most of the East and Hawaii] every American State was [And likely, whaddyah reckon, as a prerequisite to Statehood?] ... um ... American.
And the Philippines was .... um .... foreign.
The best reason I know of to say no to statehood for the Philipines, leaving aside all issues of economics, ethnicity and religion, is simply distance. The Philipines are simply to far away.
The Filipinos who want statehood only want it for what it will bring them. What they would bring the U.S. is a heap of trouble. Forget it, unless we can buy the territory without the Filipinos.
I am in favor of it. I am in favor of any state or country joining the United States or leaving the United States by the will of their people. This would spread freedom and democracy across the globe, but would require a return to a true Republic. Somethign like:

It would require a return to a Republic because poorer states might join just for our Welfare benefits. This needs to be eliminated.
140 new rats in congress and 6 more rat senators? No thanks.
Don't think so? As soon as this was close to happening the rats would be out there explaining how they could vote themselves a piece of the pie not by working but by voting straight rat. It would be Hawaii times 28!
I mean, why shop around for third and fourth world orphans when there's better to be had?
