"She has a 4.0 average, 8th grade, goes to a good school, and is well-liked by all who know her. She is popular, has two homes (mine and her dad's) with supportive, loving families in each"
Outward appearances are obviously deceiving. Maybe she would rather have had one home with one intact loving family....bet they never asked her what she wanted.
I have a daughter who cuts herself. This is a serious problem. My daughter is an honors student with two loving parents and many friends. I'm afriad attempting suicide will be the next teen rage. If the entertainment industry can make a buck attempting suicide we will have many dead teenagers in America.
LOL LOL LOL
When I was a teenager there was a popular book, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, that dealt with this type of thing. The main character was sent to a mental institution and the book focused on her treatment.
Cutting and harming herself was considered a cry for help. Now it's just cool. :( What have we done to our children?
Hey kids, President Bush was only talking about tax cuts.
;-)
When my nine year old has a headache she thinks she is going to die. Now I know that is neurotic but it leaves me to believe she is not going to start cutting herself with pins!
Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. "O Baal, answer us!" they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.
27 At noon Elijah began to taunt them. "Shout louder!" he said. "Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened."
28 So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed.
29 Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention.
"I am of the opinion that most of these ills can trace their roots down to being brought up in broken homes. A child suffers severe mental damage if brought up by divorced parents."
I agree.
I don't want to go into details, but as a result of a difficult childhood I've struggled with depression all my life. I used to cut my arms with razor blades when I was 16 years old--this was over 25 years ago and I never knew anyone else who did this.
"Cutting" is a sign that something wrong. Mentally healthy people do not inflict injury on themselves.
I think there is a whole generation of psychologically damaged kids that is the direct result of self-absorbed parents who think their own happiness is more important than their children's.
Look at the lyrics of rap music--fatherless homes is a constant theme. Look at Nirvana and Pearl Jam lyrics.
It's very sad.
As a father of one boy and two girls, all of whom are over 14 years of age, I can tell you this sounds sick.
There are all sorts of things teenagers do to engage in self-discovery. Inflicting pain on themselves (outside of stupid love games) is not one of them. Pain is engineered to discourage destructive behaviors. Whether smoking, doing drugs, or cutting yourself, you have to be trying to overcome a strong built-in mechanism to stop you. Humans CAN do this, but one should investigate why they want to. That's what parents are for.
You can't just blame Hollywood. You have to blame an entire culture that seeks to separate children from their parents.
Shalom.
The enemy strikes again. His lie is, once again, a twisting of the truth. His lie is that by cutting oneself one can find escape from a souls pain.
The truth is that the Saviors cuts and pain, He endured, for people like us on the cross, heal those who believe from pain and death.
The enemy has come to kill our children and destroy souls. The Savior came to redeem and save. Turn away from the enemy who promises everlasting pain, to the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who gives everlasting life.
The only thing new about this garbage is that the "Hollyweirds" are helping out with the phase.
As a father of 4 boys and one girl, all of whom are over 35 years of age, I can tell you this is but one aspect of maturation and discovery."
I don't know why my post hit a nerve of yours, but I have 8 children, all but 2 are grown and out of the home. If you've got 5 kids all over 35, then you don't have any 13 to 16 year olds yourself. What was your reply really all about?
I think that's more likely to be tattooed on a buggerer's buggerer.
What is ECT?
What ever happened to sports?
Shalom.
"You can't just blame Hollywood. You have to blame an entire culture that seeks to separate children from their parents."
Excellent, excellent point.
That's just what I meant too, see my earlier post!
And Sid Vicious and other punk rockers were doing this almost 30 years ago on stage. Not much really new about this.
Unbalanced, mentally unstable, these kids are dopers, sniffers, fetishers who ultimately end up at 30 years old (if they live that long) and suddenly realize they have no life. Frankly, good riddance. Leaves more clean air for me to breath!
Welcome to FR.
Your daughter has my prayers. I know a young girl who is also afflicted by this. She's asked for help, so that's a good sign.
