He has become infamous in Washington. A conservative White House reporter with a past he wanted to keep secret. NBCs Campbell Brown talked with Jeff Gannon about his time in the White House and how he was so easily able to gain access to one of the country's most secure places.
He says he has been exposed by left-wing Internet bloggers who are trying to destroy his career. But at White House press briefings, Jeff Gannon was a regular:
Jeff Gannon: Since [there are] so many questions about what the president was doing over 30 years ago, what is it that he did after his honorable discharge from the National Guard? Did he make speeches alongside Jane Fonda denouncing America's racist war in Vietnam?
And at another press conference:
White House press secretary Scott McClellan: Go ahead, Jeff.
Gannon: I would like a comment on the angry mob that surrounded Karl Rove's house on Sunday. The president said Thursday in his press conference that he was reaching out to the press corps. What did he mean by that? And why would he feel the need to reach out to a group of supposedly nonpartisan people?
His troubles started when he was called on by the president at a Jan. 26 news conference and took a swipe at Democrats with his question:
"...How are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality," he asked the president.
Campbell Brown: Were you in that press conference as a plant by the White House?
Gannon: Absolutely not. I mean, look at it, Campbell. If the White House was going to use a plant, wouldn't they pick a better one than me?
Meaning someone without Gannon's past.

Now there's an unfortunate quote.

Only to those who need to switch their one-track mind to a different track.
This story is already dead. He got his 15 minutes of fame and flamed out like a roman candle.
pingo
And a suspicious name for the article. I thought the same thing.
Well, Gannon was an unfortunate choice.
Note that the liberal news media and the Democrats are keeping this story on life-support. Yet the Eason Jordan story...what Eason Jordan story?
Thanks for the ping.
You trolls are soooooo transparent
That was my point.....Jeff, are you still around?
The story IN FAVOR of Jeff Gannon is over, but the dems are not letting it go, as usual.
You have dem congresscritters writing letters to Pres. Bush DEMANDING answers about who he is, and why the White House allowed him at the press briefings. They see a conspiracy between Jeff and Bush --- they don't see how much they have done the bidding of the left every single day.
Besides, one of the excuses that the MSM and the dems are using to blast Gannon, is that he wasn't from a "legitimate" news organization. He reported for Talon News, an internet news site. THAT should make all of us Freepers CARE about this story because this could be an end around by the media and dems to keep the internet sites, LIKE Free Republic from being represented at press conferences.
Does anyone think that internet news websites should be denied a seat at a presser?
hehehe
Hey, Campbell, tell us about your daddy!
Welcome to FR.
TROLLIN' , TROLLIN', TROLLIN'...
The media is so removed from reality that they are attacking this story from a perspective that the White House Press Corp is...and always has been, objective. Listening to their self-righteous indignation is hilarious, when most of them have never been objective to begin with.
The hostility towards Bush (with regards to questions) is palpable...while Clinton and every other Democrat is treated with kid-gloves. Their ignorance becomes even more evident with stories like this, as they just can't handle being irrelevant. Whether its Bush speaking to CORE rather than the NAACP, USA Next instead of AARP, or a conservative journalist rather than a hostile liberal media...the Left realizes that their days of dictating the agenda are over.
You know, it's not very often that we get a troll with a name that makes me laugh hysterically for 5 full minutes.
