No doubt. But here's the trick to shooting for real. That is to get the other guy and be able to live long enough to brag about it to your grandson 40 years later. The secret to that is distance and accuracy. And the secret (at least in my experience) to distance and accuracy is the Springfield and skill.
Yeah, but with a .50 caliber rifle you could hit them from there.
The late and unlamented former mayor of Atlanta, Maynard Jackson, (looking like 400 lb of hog liver in a plastic bag) made a mistake and told the truth once. He said he was working for a country where only the police and the military were armed. (he was on the national board of HCI at the time) That is what the anti-gunners want. A country where you can be terrorized at will by the government or any unorganized crooks who take a fancy to your property or your life.
Longest sniper shot in the world, a Canadian using a .50 MacMillan TAC-50 killed an Afghan from 2,430 metres -- that's about a mile and a half.
I would like to see the state totally cut Chicago off. If tha cesspool had no influence on the state I would move back.
However its irrelevant to this discussion. A MacMillan 50 costs about $7,500. Properly tweaked out by an expert its going to run in the neighborhood of $12,000 or more. A Springfield .30 Caliber is maybe $150. In the hands of someone with a little practice over open sights you should regularly be able to hit a 5 inch grouping at 500 yards. Admittedly I have a hell of alot of experience and use a good scope but I can generally hit whatever I want at 1000 yds.
Get the picture? Carrying on about .50 cals is silly. There are millions upon millions of these weapons available. You can almost make an argument that a Glock or somesuch is dangerous but a .50 caliber weapon is not going to get into the wrong hands.
And their proof of this is.....? And how many terrorists do they have in Illinois that are buying up these weapons, and using them against aircraft?
It's too bad Mark Alan Wilson, 52, late of Tyler Texas, did not have a .50 BMG in his car instead of a handgun.
Just talking about range, nothing more.
BTW, I recently got an excellent deal on a WWII Mauser rebarrelled and set up for 30-06. I haven't shot it yet, any ideas on what to expect?
No, they didn't. They gave away M-1 Garands. They still do, but they go for somewhat more than $50 these days.
The M1A is a semi-auto version of the M-14. The M1A1 would be an Abrams Main Battle Tank, IIRC.
Not a bad idea. That would guarantee that it would never be enforced.
Sure is. But at 105mm (4.13") or 120mm for the M1A2 (4.72"), it's a bit beyond that 0.50" limit.
I can always rely on my SMLE.
Not really. Tough to say what "hybrid" rifles will do, even fairly common ones. The Mauser is heavy but the 30-06 is a fairly hot round so off the cuff I'd say they may cancel each other out. Watch your elevation carefully. Zero in on a low target in case she pulls high (or at least make certain that you have a high backberm to the target). I'd also try and get some match rounds to zero-in. It'll be expensive but worth it to nail the accuracy.
Should make a nice piece with a little practice.
Or my MLRS...
I say ban the 50 cal. We all know that .223 can not kill a person or destroy an aircraft. No aircraft has ever been shot down by small arms fire.
What kind of dumb ass stuff is this?
How many times are we going to have to listen to this same tripe over and over again?
