PLANO, Texas -- Some Plano parents are furious that swingsets are disappearing from school playgrounds.

The Plano Independent School District told NBC 5 that all swingsets have been removed from all elementary schools throughout the district because of safety concerns.

Parents said taking the swings out is taking the fun out of being a child.

Kristine Conley said the move is a disappointing sign of the times.

"Well, sure it can be dangerous. It's just as dangerous as riding a bike and falling down. But, it is just part of growing up," Conley said.

The Plano ISD said the move was not prompted by a lawsuit.

Didn't you know that life is fatal if you live long enough?

I heard about this today. it is the most rediculous crap! To many people are doing the politically correct thing and now it has resluted in removing swing sets? What has this world come to?? I live near Plano, but thank God at this time my son goes to a school with a swing set that all the kids enjoy!

The only way to protect children from all the dangers of childhood is to abort them!!!

I hate lawyers. They take the fun out of life. Of course, it's in our own best interest. For our own safety you know.

Swing sets last forever and are inexpenive, so not much profit in purchasing such sets.

Nanny state advocates won't be satisfied until "No Child left behind" means that every kiddo lives like the "bubble boy".

Or, more properly, exists.

I've lived in Japan. They have the best parks. I've always made the comment that if they had parks likes them in the States that a gang of lawyers would be hanging around passing out their cards. They have the best play ground equipment, and a lot less lawyers.

They need one of those good old Giant Strides, Maypole. We had one when I was a youngen and that thing had to have been designed by a plaintiff's attorney.

Tall metal pole with chains hanging down with a handle on the end. Hold on to the handle and everyone runs around until it's going fast enough to pick up your feet and fly around. The problem with this ride was the dismount - usually you got tired of hanging on and either 1. fell onto the gravel below or 2. hung on and drug your feet trying to get it to slow down while getting smacked in the head by recently vacated handles around you.

Kids these days are wussies!!

Or about 20 kids riding in the back of a pick up truck, going to the fair.

Plano is one wierd town. They have video cameras all over the place to watch you while you're out, the fire department doesn't do offensive firefighting unless someone is known to be trapped inside. The whole place reminds me of 1984.

I went through plano once and show a sign at the filing station that stated that if a policeperson came up behind you and ordered you to stop and you turned around they had the right to shoot you. I have not been back as I am hard of hearing

Swingsets, slides, merry-go-rounds, teeter totters... All must go. NOW!! We must not take a chance on a child actually exercising a little.

Moms today never say, "Go outside and play." Instead they say, "Hurry up, you're late for soccer/basketball/chess/baseball/etc/etc practice." A shame.

Few kids today actually understand what "playing" is all about. A shame.

The Plano ISD said the move was not prompted by a lawsuit.

It was prompted by fear of a lawsuit.

I hate lawyers.

You are correct. Chalk another one up to the trial lawyers. We lose as many, or more, freedoms because of the fear of trial lawyers as we do to their pals the Democrats. They work hand in glove, along with the labor unions, to destroy our freedoms and change our governemnt and our way of life.
