George Rogers Clark High School junior arrested Tuesday for making terrorist threats told LEX 18 News Thursday that the "writings" that got him arrested are being taken out of context.
Winchester police say William Poole, 18, was taken into custody Tuesday morning. Investigators say they discovered materials at Poole's home that outline possible acts of violence aimed at students, teachers, and police.
Poole told LEX 18 that the whole incident is a big misunderstanding. He claims that what his grandparents found in his journal and turned into police was a short story he wrote for English class.
"My story is based on fiction," said Poole, who faces a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge. "It's a fake story. I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies."
Even so, police say the nature of the story makes it a felony. "Anytime you make any threat or possess matter involving a school or function it's a felony in the state of Kentucky," said Winchester Police detective Steven Caudill.
Poole disputes that he was threatening anyone.
"It didn't mention nobody who lives in Clark County, didn't mention (George Rogers Clark High School), didn't mention no principal or cops, nothing," said Poole. "Half the people at high school know me. They know I'm not that stupid, that crazy."
On Thursday, a judge raised Poole's bond from one to five thousand dollars after prosecutors requested it, citing the seriousness of the charge.
Poole is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
Hmm that was interesting that the police said that so I looked it up in the constitution and found this right near the top of the page on amendments.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
So that would appear to mean that you cant make it a felony to write short storys. If that were to be the case stephen king and dean koontz would have been sentence to death by lethal injection long ago.I'msure this will make more and more children turn to creative writing to express themselves and develope thier imaginations.
There's no freedom to make threats, but any imbecile can tell this kid wasn't making threats.
"Ideas are more powerful than guns. If we don't let our people have guns, why should we let them have ideas." --Josef Stalin
I once wrote a story in fourth grade that made my teacher cry (and I got an A). It was about a trapper in Alaska that had to move back down to the Lower 48. He killed himself instead.
I imagine if I wrote that today I spend quite a while with some shrink!
Betty went to school, Betty did not the school, Satan ran the school, Betty blew up the school, Betty went home and slept it off.
Felony in Kentucky??
My little group (3 people) always ended up with something out of Friday 13th movies...

I guess English grammar isn't something he's been taught yet. Maybe his teachers ought to be under scruitiny for failing to educate him on proper use of the language?
Methinks the only zombies are the stupid authorities who overreacted.
LOL!
[Investigators say they discovered materials at Poole's home that outline possible acts of violence aimed at students, teachers, and police.]
If there is anything to this claim, the story makes no specific mention of it. There are no quotes from Poole's "materials" cited at all, and unless something A LOT more substantial comes out, I'm skeptical that this is anything more than a harmless work of fiction from the student.
found this on another website when i was looking up more details on this story Cool nature lesson: Zombie Ants!!!!!
The Lancet Fluke (Dicrocoelium lanceolatum) actually infects ants and then takes over it's brain. During mid day (peak cow grazing time) the ant is controlled by the parasite and travels up to the top of a blade of grass and locks it's jaws. The fluke is trying to use the ant to infect a grazing cow. When the sun starts to go down, the ant releases it's jaws and joins the rest of it's colony. During this time it may infect other ants. When the sun rises the next day, the cycle repeats itself.
Big bust, national news, heroic action...the junky (you know you love the limelight) could not resist.
These zero tolerance rules (or are they laws?) will be the final death blow to public education.
When my daughter was in grade school, she wrote a story called "The Deadly Unicorn" and named names...it was HILARIOUS! Of course, she was in a parochial school and Columbine hadn't happened yet...
But who will risk sending their kids to a government school with the twin perils of the homosexual agenda and zero tolerance? Not only will your child be taught methods and practices of deviant sex, he/she will be arrested for candy cigarettes and drawing pictures of guns...
I recommend we shut down the public schools. That right there would save medicare AND social security.
Lancet Flukes! That explains a lot about the blue states!
ROTFLMAO!!
I'm waiting to hear about the case where a student
writes a story about rainbows, and singing, smiling
bunny rabbits..... and is promptly arrested for
terroristic threats.
It's coming.
His grandparents turned him in - Gee.
There is more to this story.
I wonder if Katie Couric will be interviewing the grandparents?
From here on out I will never read one of these stories without thinking of Ward Churchill and his Eichmanns, and his incitement of Hawaiians to kneecap tourists, and all the little birdies chirping about his right to free speech.
Look, I can even understand giving this kid a talking to and checking him out, but a FELONY? Give me a break.
What's with the grandparents? Why are they reading his journal?
Something missing from this story?
