H.J. Heinz Profit Falls on Hain Write-Down

CHICAGO — Ketchup maker H.J. Heinz Co. (HNZ) posted sharply lower third-quarter profits Monday, as the ketchup-maker said strong business in North America couldn't make up for rising fuel costs, soaring commodity prices and a large write-down.

Earns for the quarter ending Jan. 26 was $152.4 million, or 43 cents per share. During the same period last year, the company earned $202.2 million, or 57 cents per share.

The company reported $73.8 million in impairment charges during the third quarter, largely due to a write-off of an investment in the Hain Celestial Group Inc (HAIN).

Excluding impairment charges and 4 cents per share from discontinued operations, Heinz would have reported income of $212.4 million, or 60 cents per diluted share.

Howard Heinz Endowment ($862M) chaired by Tarayza Not part of Heinz Corporation

Heinz Family Foundation ($73.9M) chaired by Tarayza Not part of Heinz Corporation

Vira I. Heinz Endowment ($444.8M) chaired by Taraza... just like the Tides Foundation and Tides Center. Not part of Heinz Corporation

The woman is a radical leftist and she does own a part of the company right?

That witch can waste her money any way she wants, just like she has no right telling me what to do with my money.

Anyway we should also boycott TARGET, TEXACO-CHEVRON, Hewlett-Packard, Aetna, American Express, Ben & Jerry, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, Verizon, Sara Lee, Harper's, New York Times, Playboy and Kellogg's. All of these are corporations that give large sums of cash to LEFTIST causes through their foundations, these foundations are funded by these companies today. So does the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation BTW

I don't like it either. But if you quit buying from all these places you are going to live in a cave. Come into the real world

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We need to make it clear to these companies that we do not like what they are doing

Then start buying up their stock and go to the stockholders meetings. Or call them and write them and bitch. BUT DON'T HURT ALL THOSE EMPLOYEES AND INVESTORS!

Good. Don't use any Heinze products. They'll kill ya man. I swear.

However, Heinz still makes the best ketchup in the world and other than the fact that Teraaaaaazah's late husband owned the company, she has nothing to do with it. It's a publicly owned company that, IIRC, donated heavily to Bush and the GOP.

You're finally right about something...but please don't worry.. I rely on my broker,

My attitude toward H.J. Heinz products remains the same.

And as I said before, you may very well own Heinz stock through mutual funds or other companies and don't even know it. If you are that passionate about it, you might want to check with your broker. All the other companies that you sited here you probably own stock in too.

Are you familiar with Lynn Swann, who campaigned for Bush in PA and is possibly the Republican front runner for Governor? He is on the board of Heinz. He donated to Kerry's senate campaign 3 times in 1996-97. Politics makes strange bedfellows.

I do not own Heinz stock in ANY investment... and Lynn Swann is probably as much a Republican as Sen. Lincoln Chaffee RI or NYC Mayor Bloomburg.

More than you think. I am one of them. One that almost put Arlen Specter out of office.

Answer... one-Sen. Rick Santorum R PA

You mean the Santorum that CAMPAIGNED FOR SPECTER-ads and all-when we had a PRO-LIFE/FISCAL CONSERVATIVE running against him that almost won? Let become chairman of the Judiciary Committee?

I was referring to Elected politicians.... I guess you're suggesting Santorum lacks a conservative bent... then I suppose that also means there are no elected conservatives in the northeast...

OK...
