Disease conference leaves folks ailing

Around 30 people attended a conference on infectious diseases at the University of Oslo two weeks ago, and ended up getting infected themselves.

The 32 of the 50 participants at the conference arranged by the university were plagued by vomiting and diarrhea after they ate food that had been catered in. All apparently suffered acute cases of food poisoning.

The two-day conference had attracted participants from all over Europe, who likely won't soon forget their time in Oslo.

The web site Journalen, published by Oslo journalism students, reported that the catering firm hired to provide the food was also found to be illegally registered.

News from the health front of Norway, our allies in the War against Terror.

For those members of Free Republic interested in the matter, there are other stories on the Aftenposten web-site, about scandals within the defense ministry of the current government--this should be of interest because thls might, or might not, have an effect on the elections in Norway later this year, and whether or not Norway remains part of the allied coalition to liberate the oppressed.

"Ping" for the Norway ping list.

Today I received a 588-page biography of Magnus VI, king of Norway 1263-1280; this is probably the first biography of any Norwegian king I have ever read.

Of course, the very first biography I ever read, as a child, was a child's story of Charles XII of Sweden, which left me permanently impressed, and against whom I have ever after measured other kings of other times and places.

The history of Norway seems peculiar--but one has to remember that Norwegians, like Nebraskans, have always been small, very small, in numbers, almost insignificant. It is unreasonable, for example, to expect the Norwegians to have been as robust, as vigorous, as interesting, as the British, who next to the Jewish people, were probably the most fascinating people to whom God gave life.

This is only speculative, but it seems to me the history of Norway is as if one is standing on a mountainside, looking down upon a lake. It is cold, and the dark is not black, but rather dark blue. One is suffocated by trees, and hears the noises of reindeer, bison, and wild boars shuffling through the underbrush.

Once in a while, the moon shines brightly upon the frozen water of the lake, and one grasps the history of Norway.
