Gannongate Swinging Open? New Move in Congress for Info
Editor & Publisher ^ | 3/3/05

For two weeks, several Democratic members of Congress have pressed the White House, the Secret Service, the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security for information about just how GOPUSA/Talon News reporter James Guckert was able to attend briefings and presidential press conferences for two years under the alias James Gannon, on behalf of an openly partisan organization. Guckert has also been linked to sex sites and a male escort operation.

Today, ranking members for House committees on Rules, Judiciary, Government Reform, Homeland Security and Ways and Means submitted a Resolution of Inquiry, which would require the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security to turn over all documentation regarding Guckert's access to the White House day after day for two years.

"We cannot allow the White House to stonewall the United States Congress and the American people on an issue of such importance, said Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY). Every day more questions are raised and so far, the White House is not providing any answers. We intend to find out what the White House is hiding."

Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich) said: "We had hoped that the half dozen congressional and senate requests for information would have been sufficient. We hope that this resolution gets to the bottom of whether any processes were abused in favoring Mr. Guckert.

The resolution must be considered by the Judiciary Committee within 14 legislative days and, unless blocked by the Republicans on the committee, will be put before the full House for consideration.

I'm sorry. I just don't get why this is such a big deal.

Every day more questions are raised . . .

If this really bothers you, Louise, all you have to do is stop talking. Like magic, no more questions will be raised.

This Legend-of-Zelda-Gate requires a Congressional investigation, and the CBS fake memos, during a presidential election season, does not. Right.

As I see it, Gannon's crimes were:
1) Writing under a pseudonym. Yawn.
2) Being biased. Openly. No problem here, at least he's honest.
3) Having a questionable past. But how does that affect his journalistic career? Sure he's not squeakly clean, but he's not posing as a reverend--just as a minor reporter.

The only issue here is how he got the pass--I imagine that for the background check he gave his real name, and he wrote under his assumed name. Is there something more to this story?

I think they should pass legislation to dig skeletons out of the closet for all reporters and purge all the crooked ones out. Give them all the deep cavity search treatment. :^)

Gannon wasn't issued a permanent press pass, it was a DAILY one. What should the criteria be for issuing daily passes to reporters in, make sure they're all liberal and hate GW?

If his pimp had been Barney Frank, you wouldn't be hearing about it at all.

And/or if he would have been a liberal, you wouldn't have heard anything about it.

I want information on all the other journalists who have access to White House press briefings. THen we'll consider whether to comply with this outrageous request.

I guess the conclusion is that gay people should not be given White House press passes. As far as I can tell, that is the left's position on this issue.

Not just any 'questionable past' - one that most libs embrace, champion, and feel is deserving of special rights!

Does Barney Frank get a pass? Sure, why not Gannon. The whole thing is a wonderful tempest in the teapot to keep the opposition busy. An excellent distraction -- they chase it like some dog chases a ratty tennis ball. They can't help it.

I believe the WH has already stated they knew he was writing under a pseudonym and he obtained the pass using his true name.

Do they just keep issuing the same press release over and over?

I love it when the libs get their knickers in a wad over something like this. It always comes back to bite them in the rear. It's the old Road-Runner effect. They keep falling for it over and over.

Not all gays should be denied WH press passes, just gays who are conservative, ya know. Same with minorities - the "bad" ones are the conservative ones.

Amazing response; given the presence in their chambers of former Congressman Gary Condit. . .and for how many years?

And, of course, let's not forget 'Barney' and his sideline business; and he is still there. . .and the list goes on.

Good Grief. . .will someone up there be bold enough to drag a big mirror onto the floor of Congress as these sick demrat twits make there rediculous assertions?

Investigating? In a pigs ear. . .

I'm still waiting to find out who hired Craig Livingstone to be the head of White House security!

Has anyone started exploring the backgrounds of various lib reporters who have had White House access through the years?? That would be virtually the entire White House press corps, of course, but surely there must be many many interesting skeletons in the closets of the various libs who have been in and out of the White House over the past 45 years. Pick some of the more far left journalists who have been at White House press conferences through the years (especially in the Clintonlite years) and start picking apart their backgrounds. Maybe there'll be some real criminals, but at the very least there must be plenty with some very seedy aspects to their lives. Let the left enjoy some 'payback' for this non-scandal.....

It's time to pursue a "scorched earth" campaign against the media frauds that are making the Guckert/Gannon thing a mountain out of a tiny molehill.....
