Indictments handed down in Short family slaying

ROANOKE, Va. -- Indictments have been handed down relating to the investigation of the 2002 slaying of the Short family, a U.S. attorney said Thursday.
But attorney John Brownlee also indicated in a news release that the three homicides remained unsolved.
The joint federal, state and local investigation into the case is continuing, according to the release, which did not say who was indicted, or on what charges. Brownlee said he would announce the indictments at a news conference at his office today.
On Aug. 15, 2002, the bodies of Michael Wayne Short, 50, and Mary Hall Short, 36, were found inside their Bassett, Va., home, each with a gunshot wound to the head. Their daughter, 9-year-old fourth-grader Jennifer Renee Short, was missing, setting off a national Amber Alert and a massive search.
