Robbery, not religion, behind family's killing

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The upstairs tenant of an Egyptian Christian family found slain in their home in January and another man have been charged in the killings, and authorities said Friday the motive was robbery, not religious fanaticism.

Two men already on parole for drug offenses pleaded not guilty to four counts of murder in the Jan. 11 killing of the Armanious family, which had caused tension between Christians and Muslims in New Jersey.

Edward McDonald, 25, who rented a second-floor apartment above the Armanious family, and Hamilton Sanchez, 30, were ordered held on $10 million bail.

"I didn't kill nobody, man," Sanchez said as he was led from the courtroom. McDonald, wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and black pants, stared at the floor during the hearing.

Authorities said Hossam Armanious, 47, his wife, Amal Garas, 37, and their children, Sylvia, 15, and Monica, 8, were slain three days before their bodies, bound and gagged with puncture wounds to their heads and necks, were found Jan. 14.

In the days after the slayings, about $3,000 was withdrawn from Armanious' bank account using his ATM card, and investigators were able to get surveillance video from cameras over those cash machines, officials said.

Both men were arrested Thursday.

"I'd like to make one thing perfectly clear: The motive for these murders was robbery. This was a crime based on greed, the desperate need of money," Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said.

DeFazio said officials believe a planned robbery spiraled out of control when the 8-year-old loosened her bonds and recognized McDonald. He is accused of killing her to avoid identification, and Sanchez is accused of killing the three others, DeFazio said.

The slaying had caused speculation that Hossam Armanious might have angered Muslims with opinions he posted in Internet chat rooms under the user name "I Love Jesus." The arrests were welcomed by Christian and Muslim groups who said they were disturbed by the religious tension.

no.....posters were simply stating the obvious.......a religious minority that apparently had been threatened by another religious minority and then ends up dead in a very gruesome fashion......

the obvious is to look at who was doing the threatening....

just like in the Chicago judge's case.....you look at who has threatened to kill somebody first....then, after that is dismissed, you move in other directions....

it is my believe however, that the MSM and the government since the dark days of the Clintonistas have covered up as many terror threats and actual incidents as they could......for what purpose, one can only guess....

We are living in a civilized country and its a shame to see Americans start posting hateful posts towards other's religion because some coptic egyptians took to the streets of Jersey City like uncivilized savages & blaming Muslims before any suspects were arrested. Then they come to web sites spewing their hate. Now that everyone knows the truth & that Muslims where not responsible for the killings of that coptic arab family. Hopefully we can all learn a lesson not to jump to conclusions until all the facts are straight. And to all the uncivilized coptic arabs posting hate on this site--> shame on you for bringing your 3rd world uncivilized hate tactics to America!! Remember you're in America---> leave the hate behind--> and the justice system is great here (DNA evidence, etc..) Happy postings, Jake :)

Shame on you for saying that "everyone knows the truth" on a case that has merely begun.
Where do you live ? What do you do for a living ?
Do you live in the Jersey City area ?
Do you have any involvement in any of the following ? = Islamic studies, law enforcement, prosecution/defense ?
If not than you don't have any reason to give sanctimonious input and impugn other freepers who are much more familiar with the merits of this case.
LOL

Please go take your Politically Correct preciousness to the DU boards.

Oh, boy... Where to start...

You try to lecture us about hate, yet you call the Coptic Christians "Uncivilized" and "Savages". Not exactly a great way to reinforce your point.

"Jumping to conclusions", despite the negative connotations of it, is a healthy part of dialog. Just think of it as "throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks" or merely pontification due to an emotional reaction. It's healthy. It helps explore angles that would otherwise be stifled by political correctness or folks who wave their finger and shout "don't be judgmental!"

I saw in your other post (that was about this topic, oddly enough) that you editorialized in the headline and gave a patronizing lecture in your foot post. And... here is the real shocker... you signed up TODAY.

Now settle down, lest the viking kitties blow their battle horns and carry you away.

Yep...you got me.....Good detective work there TJ Hooker. I’m secretly a muslim lover. Yeah…It has NOTHING to do with the fact that people were foaming at the mouth over wild accusations and then after the cops find the murders they STILL deny the facts in the case.

Nooooo, how could it not be muslims…I mean,….there was a chat room…a vague email….people died…..DUH! Its all a conspiracy!

Then there's this from the Northeast Intelligence Network:

According to sources speaking to the Northeast Intelligence Network on the condition of anonymity, McDonald is not believed to be the only person involved in this slaying - and might not have committed the murders himself.

NEIN is basically a guy in his basement. I'm I'm not mistaken, his stuff can't be posted on FR (at least not as a thread starter). It's not the most reliable of sources.

The fact remains that a lot of people immediately assumed that this was a killing by Muslim terrorists, and treated same as fact. Now some of them are trying to spin it in wierd ways.

So, you're no more willing to wait for a trial than the others you accuse?

....and then after the cops find the murders (sic)...
