The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

This makes me really angry. How many times have we heard an incident ruled "not terrorist related" when just prior, there was a terror alert relating to the very possibility of said incident?

It makes me angry as well.

By eliminating the word *terrorist* from the vocabulary, will we have defeated terrorism? LOL, hardly.

Community Shaken Over News of Bomb

Investigators want to know who planted a bomb in Illinois.

Wayne County deputies and the FBI are investigating an explosive placed under a railroad track just east of Fairfield. A potentially dangerous situation was averted, but what makes this case so un-nerving is this incident could very easily be repeated with devastating results. Wayne County chief deputy David Zola says, "It would have been a real bad situation, yes."

Railroad employees working on the tracks just east of Fairfield found a pipe bomb nestled between the gravel and the rail. "We believe the bomb was powerful enough that it would have done some significant damage on this one rail causing the very next train coming down the railroad to possibly derail."

Zolar says THE BOMB'S FUSE WAS LIT (emphasis mine) but for some unknown reason the fuse went out.(snip)

Suspicious Man Tackled At Capitol
Building Evacuated As Precaution

WASHINGTON -- All employees inside the U.S. Capitol are being evacuated because a suspicious person with what appeared to be two suitcases was standing on the west side of the building.




That's the side of the building facing the National Mall and the Washington Monument.

A camera watching the situation showed the person simply standing with a suitcase on either side.

The U.S. Capitol Police Department asked for the evacuation.

At about 1:40 p.m. four armed officers approached the man, tackled him and dragged him away. The two suitcases he was standing with remain outside the building while the investigation continues.
