The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

U.S. works 'day and night' to rein in al-Qaida
Full Story

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

"We're very concerned at this point because if we found one bomb, we believe someone in the area is making these bombs and he's still at large and we're doing everything possible to interviewing these people making these bombs."

The bomb was also found armed with bolts and nails -- capable of seriously injuring someone if the device had exploded.

The FBI's joint terrorism task force was also notified and is investigating the case

The death of Haroon Paryani can easily be ignored.

The 61-year-old Chicago cab driver was murdered last February after a passenger, according to eyewitnesses, hijacked his cab and ran over Paryani's head and neck until he died. Today, the accused man is out on
bail.

Paryani's murder cannot ever be ignored. As his widow and children (two of whom are disabled) adamantly stressed to me after I met them shortly after his death, no more cab drivers should have to suffer the kind of abuse this caring husband and father did.

In the last two months five Muslims have died unnatural deaths.

From your Fairfield link:

Oil Operations

In 1985, Wayne County was the largest oil producing county in Illinois with a production of 2,871,132 barrels valued at more than $77,000,000, representing 9.5% of the State's total production.
In 1986, more than 60 businesses were located in the immediate Fairfield area dealing with various phases of the oil industry, generating an income estimated at more than $75,000,000 annually.

Interesting.

The rail line is the main Norfolk Southern line.

Wonder what the next train would have been hauling?

Official Marburg Toll at 218 - True Number Much Higher

"Recombinomics Commentary

April 10, 2005

>>  "As of noon, the total number of cases nationwide is 218 and 193 people have died," a joint statement said, adding that 360 others were under surveillance in the southern African country where the outbreak was first detected in October.

The last toll based on figures compiled up to Friday was 184.

The communique said there were 173 fatalities and 189 cases in the northern province of Uige, the epicentre of the outbreak, followed by six deaths each in the Kwanza Sul and Zaire regions, four in Luanda province, two in Mananje and one each in Cabinda and Kwanza Norte. <<

The data above gives detail on where Marburg patients have died, as well as where there are patients who are still alive.  The total number of cases is up to 218, which is 62 shy of the record 280 fatalities for Ebola.  However, the distribution of the cases suggests the data is lagging the actual cases by 1-2 weeks.  Thus, it is likely that the number infected is already well in excess of 280, and since virtually all infected patients have died, a new fatality record has already been set.''................

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "KABUL (Reuters) - U.S. military aircraft killed five suspected Taliban guerrillas in strikes in southeastern Afghanistan on Monday, officials said.

A jet and helicopter gunships were called in after a Taliban group attempted to assassinate Kheyal Baaz Khan Sherzai, the top former military commander of the province of Khost, not far from the border with Pakistan.

"Sherzai survived the ambush and as a result of the American air attacks, five Taliban were killed," Khost governor Mirajuddin Patan told Reuters.

Update from Mutter's on Bush-Sharon meeting:

Sharon to warn Bush that Abbas rule could collapse

By Aluf Benn (Washington) and Nathan Guttman (Crawford, Texas), Haaretz Correspondents, Haaretz Staff and Agencies

In their Monday meeting at George W. Bush's Texas ranch, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is expected to tell the president that Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' rule is collapsing and that the PA chairman is not abiding by his promises.

In addition, Sharon will raise the possibility of preparing for the fall of Abbas' rule.:yikes

There has been growing concern that the fragile ceasefire declared by Sharon and Abbas in February is fraying. In retaliation for the killings of three Palestinian teenagers by IDF troops in Gaza on Saturday, militants fired some 100 mortar shells and rockets at Gaza Strip settlements and at the western Negev.

One message Sharon may deliver to the president is that if Abbas fails to take actiopn to curb militant violence, Israel will be forced to do so itself, Army Radio reported Monday.

The statement was underscored by Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said of Abbas early Monday, "Abu Mazen must understand: If he doesn't do it - and he's not showing signs of doing it - then we will do it. And then there may be some chance that he'll do something. But if he doesn't, then we will."

Sharon will also tell the American president that armed Palestinian organizations are violating their own cease-fire promises.

Quote:PM discusses PA, pullout, Iran with Rice

Sharon arrived in Waco, Texas on Monday. The prime minister's hotel in Waco was surrounded by a tight cordon of security with large trucks blocking intersections. Sharon will travel to Bush's ranch 25 miles (40 km) away in Crawford on Monday morning for talks, a joint news conference and lunch.

The premier met with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over dinner in his hotel in Texas. The two spent around an hour together, in preparation for Sharon's meeting with Bush later in the day. They discussed the disengagement, the situation in the PA and the Iranian nuclear threat. Later, Sharon's aides met with Bush administration officials to finalize the preparations.

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz called Abbas on Sunday night to impress upon him the need to crack down on the armed groups in Gaza in the wake of the Saturday shelling.

Sharon told reporters during his flight predawn on Monday that he viewed the attack on Gaza settlements as a 'blatant violation' of the agreements established at the Sharm el Sheikh summit and that he would discuss the matter with the president.

The IDF says the evidence collected so far in its investigation of the shooting indicates that the soldiers behaved properly - and that the three 14-year-olds were involved in weapons smuggling efforts in the area.

The Sharon trip came after a tense weekend in Israel. In addition to the flare-up in Gaza, thousands of police were sent to Jerusalem to prevent a threatened demonstration by extreme rightists on the Temple Mount. Palestinian demonstrators flooded the site to "protect" it from the Jewish protesters.

And while fewer than 100 demonstrators showed up for a much touted "demonstration by tens of thousands" on Tel Aviv's Ayalon highway, dozens of rightists burned tires Sunday, snarling the already jammed morning rush-hour traffic until police cleared the way.

Police arrested 31 Jews and 8 Palestinians in Jerusalem and another 32 Jews in Tel Aviv.

Sharon is to spend six hours Monday with U.S. officials in Crawford, Texas, at President Bush's "western White House."

From Texas, Sharon will head back to Israel via Washington, where he is slated to meet with administration officials, congressional leaders, American Jewish community leaders and the press. He is due back in Israel on Thursday.

Ahead of the meeting Monday, reports from Texas said the U.S. is planning to broaden the scope of its special security envoy Lt. Gen. William Ward to deal with the Israeli complaints about lack of PA progress on its security reforms and its inability to prevent mortars launched at Gush Katif.

American sources said that Bush and Rice are planning to beef up Ward's team, as well as widen the scope of his responsibilities, to help speed up the pace of reforms in the PA.

Ward has come under some criticism for failing to make progress on the ground and not making explicit demands of either side. Former U.S. peace negotiator Dennis Ross said last week that Ward is working too slowly, and warned that by the time he gets up to steam, "he'll find himself facing the Hamas and not the PA."

Israel has so far been satisfied with Ward's operation, with Mofaz praising him in Washington during his visit there last week. Israeli officials seem to be happy with Ward because he doesn't hand out grades to either side.

As part of his beefed-up role, Ward would meet more often with PA security officials, and maintain closer monitoring of progress on the ground.

While Sharon will be emphasizing Abbas' failures, the American agenda for the summit places a high priority on Israel increasing security cooperation with the Palestinians ahead of the disengagement and clarifications about Israeli settlement construction in the territories.

Those issues were due to come up in the meeting between Rice and Sharon at Sharon's Waco, Texas hotel. The two met Monday night shortly after Sharon's arrival, to discuss the issues on the agenda in Crawford.

The Bush-Sharon meeting will begin at 9:30 Monday morning, Crawford time. After all the formalities - meetings with staff, the press conference, the luncheon - Bush is slated to give Sharon a tour of the Bush ranch with just the two of them in the president's pickup truck.

Meanwhile, no date has been formally scheduled for a Bush-Abbas meeting. The White House has made clear to Abbas that he is welcome, but he has so far postponed his trip until the political and security situation in the PA has been stabilized.
