As Dan Rather prepares to step down as anchorman of the CBS Evening News, latest indications are that nothing has really changed at the network and nothing will change. Despite the reported housecleaning stemming from the "Rathergate" phony-documents scandal, also known as Memogate, the newscast still refuses to correct basic and documented errors of fact. Business as usual continues at CBS.
On January 12th, just two days after the release of the "independent" report on Memogate, when you would have thought that CBS would have had their fact checkers and proofreaders working overtime, came this gaffe: as part of their Fallen Heroes feature on the CBS Evening News, in which they talk about someone who has died in the war on terror, with sad music playing in the background, Dan Rather introduced Sergeant Joseph Guerrera. While showing his picture and a graphic that showed he was an Army pfc., age 20, Rather said, "He was just four when his father was killed in the Vietnam War. Guerrera started wearing his dad's dog tags and decided he wanted to be a soldier too." After giving information about his death, the report highlighted another picture and a graphic showing he was born in 1983 and died in 2003. To the best of our recollection the war in Vietnam ended in 1975. You do the math.

"What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"
Sorry for the double post.......
I hope someone, somewhere is keeping all of Rather's lies throughout his career. He is just the type that the Dems want and will probably end up as some sort of media/PR advisor to, or spokesperson for the Democrats in the next election.
sounds like a load of ambergris to me....

You can put money on that! But we'll still be watching him.

Great reply! "Get the hook!" LOL
World class slime too. So long Danny boy-now go stuff it.
LOL! my grandma told me they really used to shout that in the vaudeville days. I guess they were ahead of the "gong show"!
Chump, indeed. He got caught. The entire world knows they were fake documents made with a computer. But he claims that they can't be authenticated. He cannot bring himself to admit that they are fake.
Dan's had to gulp down so many plates of crow pie over his CBS career, one more big helping at his retirement party will just about bust his gut.
I am not old enough to remember vaudeville but I have heard "get the hook" yelled a number of times, mostly in jest.
For the most part the war was over in '73. It was in April/May of '75 that we evacuated the embassy in Saigon when it was overrun. (Remember the chopper airlift from the roof?)
So this makes the story even more distorted, if that's possible.

Just an old has-been goat who stayed too long at the fair. Go home, Dan, as you should have done twenty years ago.
Dan and Tom Brokaw probably already have memberships set up at the local - 'time-away spa'. One day, near the end, they'll probably both be strapped to their beds, for their own protection, tongues padded (they having seen Eastwood's epic), muttering to themselves, 24/7 - BOOOOSH! is the Real Criminal!
"It will be a one-hour special honoring over 40 yeras of Dan's most memorable lies!"
Ha! That's classic! LOL
I remember that. It was heart wrenching.
