And there is still the not so small matter of forging an official government document, a felony, that Dan Rather must be held accountable for.
I definitely feel that Rather is calculating in his decision to 'stick to his guns', given the possible consequences of telling the truth. But I would respectfully disagree that it was fear that motivated him. I believe it was his Clinton-sized ego that drives him to engage in the 'cover-up'. And much like Ol' Bubba (and the aforementioned Hiss), an ego of his magnitude will only continue to destroy his perception of right and wrong, along with his reputation.
I'm not so sure. I think Murrow had some issues with politics and the truth as well. During the McCarthy hearings and toward the end of his life, Murrow did some reporting that was questionable. One CBS "White Paper" that Murrow did in 1960 called; "Harvest of Shame", was essentially a hit job.
In this case, there are more horses as*es than horses in the CBS herd of ancients.
All of these MSM stories are bittersweet. I mean, like here's Danny boy going out the door - that's a happy thing - and then - a sad thing - the communist Italian reporter that was wounded by friendly fire last week is still alive. I just don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Rather is hitting new lows on the way out. He still will not admit the computer generated "documents" are fake.
Also I happened to catch a bit of his broadcasted readings tonight. With a grave voice he told us the Nasdaq stock index had fallen 19 points.
In reality it was up 19.
Courage Dan, courage.
