CONCORD, N.H. - Morgan Quitno Press has named New Hampshire the ``Most Livable State'' for the second consecutive year.
Like last year, the Granite State passed Minnesota to take the top spot.
Vermont held at third, while Massachusetts ranked seventh, Connecticut 14th, Maine 15th and Rhode Island 23rd.
The 2005 award is based on 44 factors. They include median household income, the crime rate and job growth.

Hey! Nebraska is 10! South Dakota is 9! So glad I'm in a liveable area. I didn't even know it.
Then why did we climb 8 spots? ; )
Oh. Weather isn't factored in I guess.
How could New Hampshire be number one? I've been from Portsmouth to Dixville Notch and have yet to find a decent burrito.
Good thing reading comprehension wasn't ranked - you're looking at the alpha list. You're #35.
I could think up my own list of 44 criteria and come up with a ranking that is the opposite of this list.
I've lived in four states, three of which are in the last 10. I would completely disagree that those three were any less livable than the one state I lived in that's not in the last 10 (actually, it's in the top 10).
While I'm happy that my beloved Commonwealth of Virginia is #5, any survey that uses the above as positives is very suspect.
South Carolina was #44 and having lived there for 7 1/2 years, only recently leaving, I can tell you it is a MUCH better place to live than most other states ranked higher on the list.

What a bunk list. Apparently, "livable" means "higher concentrations of rich white people".
I am happy to live in the least livable state. My 10 year old, 2-story brick house with a pool cost $104,000. The last time I bought gas, I paid $1.76 a gallon. It's probably 70 degrees outside right now.
Man, I hate it here. ;)
I dunno, but we still have cockfighting here... that's a plus.
Well, since I moved from CA to MN last summer, I guess I moved up. I'll let you know after this weekend's snows.
quick tell all to move to N.H. maybe we can have some elbow room here in Los Angeles.
Some people just don't know what part of the world is really worth living in...
Already self-corrected in post #23. What was that about reading comprehension, again? ;)
I hadn't gotten that far yet :P
As they say in NH: Live Free or Die!
How can a place be rated to be livivable when cost of living is not even a factor in the equations ??
Hmmm....Michigan moved up 6 spots from #34 to #28. How did that happen? I live in Michigan and am optimistic, but last I checked we have an unemployment rate of 7.1 percent.
Who is Morgan Quitno anyway?
High ranked states typically have low crime, low unemployment, good health care, highly educated populace and a high standard of living.
While you may disagree with the *politics* of some of these states, the standards by which these ratings were calculated were applied uniformly.
