Prayers for cousin, his wife and unborn baby (leaking amniotic fluid)
me | March 9, 2005 | me

Posted on 03/09/2005 6:03:39 PM PST by WV Mountain Mama

My cousin, Scott and his wife, Marsha are expecting a baby girl. Two weeks ago at 24 weeks gestation, her amniotic fluid began to leak. After messing around at their local (and horrible) hospital, she went by ambulance to a big one in Pittsburgh. They found out that everything the previous hospital did was wrong. Now They are just waiting to see how long they can keep the baby in the womb and hoping everyday that it will be another day. The baby weighed 1 pound 6 oz on Monday. Any prayers for Scott, Marsha and their daughter would be appreciated.

Prayers for Mom and baby.

It is difficult but you can still carry a baby without amniotic fluid.

I am relieved to hear that she is now in a good hospital with 24 hour a day monitoring. Thanks for the prayers.

I know how hard this must be - my son had amneotic banding in the womb which resulted in him losing an arm. It's frightening how many things can go wrong before birth. Prayers going out for the little one!

My prayers are with your family. My daughter was born at 28 weeks -- every hour will help this tiny baby be that much healthier as there are so many things they can do to strengthen the baby's lungs. You cannot beat being in a major hospital where they are prepared for everything to make sure the baby is okay. BTW, my daughter turned out to be a healthy baby and came on her due date when she weighed exactly 5 lbs.

Take care and keep us posted.

Praying here!

There was an article in our local paper about a baby born in Mobile weighing 10 oz -- can you imagine? And he's doing well.

It is difficult but you can still carry a baby without amniotic fluid.

It depends on how developed the baby's lungs are. I think twenty four weeks is borderline.

I started leaking amniotic fluid at 26 weeks. They kept telling me I was peeing on myself and I insisted that I wasn't. They finally had the brains to check the fluid and it tested positive for it. BE PROACTIVE!

Tell your cousin to insist that she be on a bed with her feet elevated and all the pressure of the baby off her cervix. I stayed like this with a cathater for a week and the leak stopped. It worked so well that I went three overdue!

Prayers for them and their baby though.

Typically they have to deliver within 24 hours due to the baby drying out and infection setting in. If the sac has broken, the baby can't stay in.

My mother carried my brother for 2 weeks after she lost her "water" in 1958. She was told that my brother would die, she could become infected and spontaneously abort. Come in back to the office in 2 weeks.

2 weeks later when she went back the Doctor couldn't hear a fetal heart tone and was ready to schedule a D &C. Mom told him she felt the baby move that morning.

MD put her in the hospital from his office and induced labor. Had a son that afternoon.

I don't think she lost it all. Scott was told they had a week to decide what to do. It was a week last Friday, the baby is still "in" and they are waiting day by day.

Thank you all for your prayers.

,,, yep, prayers for Scott and Marsha. My wife was due on February 28 but no go so far. She'll be induced this Sunday if nothing happens in the interim.

Just looking at that tag line of yours - I'm in New Zealand and I have to be on FR to know there's been an Ironman event here. What a world!

Our Heavenly Father,

when You sent Jesus
into the world it was to tell us that You
would be with us always.
As we come to You with every problem, every sorrow, trouble or sickness, help us to surrender it all into Your hands.
Though we know we will not escape the
difficulties of life, nevertheless, we will have
the strength to overcome them.
We ask that You surround this Mother and child with Your Holy angels and protect them from all harm. This we ask
in Jesus' name. Amen.

Prayer and thanksgiving for this family and that the Lord will keep them together in health and happiness together. Bless Scott, Marsha and baby girl and keep them, and continue to make His face shine upon them.

Holy Mary, guard this family as once You guarded your own, and deliver her to her mother's arms and her father's heart, for thy sweet Son's sake. Amen.

The same thing happened to my sister 6 years ago. Her daughter was born just under 4lbs. after spending 6 weeks in the hospital. With good doctors Marsha should be able to give the baby some more time to grow. And of course with the prayer warriors keeping this family before God, all things are possible. This family is in my prayers.

This same scenario happened to me and my wife about 16 years ago, only at 28 weeks. This was before surfactant and recent advances in neonatal medicine/care.

My daughter turns 16 in 2 months...she's an A student, plays on the high school tennis and track teams and is just, well, awesome.

Prayers to all involved...just wanted to give you some encouraging information...

Oh..forgot to mention, my daughter's birthweight was 2 lbs, 5 oz.

Every day the child spends in utero under the stressful conditions caused by an amniotic fluid leak makes them stronger....

If they haven't told you yet, if she is to deliver anytime soon (I've seen patients hold on for weeks like this), be prepared for a C/S delivery. 24 weeks is too soon for the child to handle the trauma associated with vaginal delivery.

I am praying for you now. I lift you up to God, and I pray that healing will come for mother and baby...

I have seen the healing power of God in my own case. God saved my son in my womb; He kept my child within me when all hope seemed lost. I know it is not always the case that happy endings should be, and I do not know why I was blessed. I do know it was not by anything good or deserving about me or my child.

It was simply the amazing Grace of God. I pray the same for your cousin's baby. God is God, and the God who made this baby loves it. I pray that this child will be healed and held whole until the day of birth is come. In Jesus name, I pray it...
