Dinosaurs never do understand mammals.
Hail Buckhead! One down, many more to go.
You go, guy!
God, I love this place.
I've been a lurker since 97 or earlier, and never posted till ought four. I'm glad I came out of the closet.
RaceBannon for Lunch!
Well, now cut them some slack. What is Free Republic if not a time-stamped posting log. The story itself points to the magic timestamp.
So you've got a log (albeit multiple posters) and it's on the web. Weblog.
FR is a 'blog.
There. I've said it! Flamesuit!
A few GA FReeper pings.
Thanks, I saw this on the front cover of the AJC this morning and couldn't believe it. It was great to meet Buckhead at the W2 ball! (see my Profile page)
Hope all is well for you FP.
Hey, this is the Atlanta "newspaper".
It's a wonder ol' Marlon (a) spelled ANYbody's name right; (b) managed to find his way to the party; (c) wrote an even vaguely accurate article. Usually the AJC (besides getting in the obligatory digs versus Bush, conservatives, and Republicans) will insert all sorts of irrelevant character assassination. This is a remarkably even-handed article for that amazingly biased paper.
Hey, I'm in Atlanta and didn't get an invitation. Oh well...
YEA, FREEREPUBLIC.COM'S RIGHT AND SO IS BUCKHEAD ...RTO
The Atlanta fish wrapper panders to liberal black democrats and for them to even mention that a conservative white republican nailed a liberal icon must hurt.
Dan you have been FLAMED.
Yes, as soon as I saw UGA and Buckhead mentioned in the same piece, my day was made. Cream always rises to the top. And to think, this was in the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation!!!!
Define Buckhead as you will, to me he is simply HERO.
Look, just 'cause you got all that recognition and all, you're still just one of us, goddamnit. Now come out and take a bow. (Please?)
Great stuff... it's good to see the credit finally landing where it belongs.
I still stand by my statement. He did not have the cache of a Peter Jennings or Tom Brokaw.
It's censorship pure and simple! Dan Rather's right to bee seen on see-BS is CLEARLY spelled out in the Constitution!
What a surprise to see Buckhead on the front page of the AJC today. Is it a coincidence that Cynthia Tucker is on vacation this week?
Wow, I'm a blogger! And I've only posted 1 thread (a pretty lame one, at that!). I'm so proud :)
"Buckhead isn't a blogger,....."
It is my understanding that Buckhead does have his own blog site but also posts on FreeRepublic.
Howlin is my understanding correct or not? Thanks, Spunky
I second both nominations!
Standing by your statement above is fine. I didn't see you post where you stated he did not have the cache of a Peter Jennings or Tom Brokaw.
I was talking about your other statement with the word "always" bolded in my last post to you. But you knew that.
I was just passing on some facts; some people like facts, some don't. Rather and his News Broadcast were #1 for some time. If that counts as always one of the lowest rated in your book, fine with me.
I am just posting to you now because it's entertaining, I don't expect you to agree with me.
Sorry, 5 years is a long time ago for me. So once - a life time ago - he was the bee's knees. Is that your argument? In any case he is not as big a fish as I see him made out to be. He was not an opinion swayer the way Cronkite was or as "beloved" as Brokaw is or as "respected" as Jennings is.
'Despite the controversy, Rather has had a storied career. The anchor who considered himself a reporter first has been on the scene for big stories ranging from the Kennedy assassination to the Iraqi elections last month.'
But how much of what he actually said was true?
Oh, ok no problem. I was looking at the whole picture.
...Is that your argument?
If you are arguing, fine. I was debating with the facts, and going back more than a year or so.
In any case he is not as big a fish as I see him made out to be.
You are right about that. But he was a major propagandist for years with a respectable venue to sway the public and elections with a false and misleading agenda for more than a quarter of a century.(Sorry, I know this is a long time ago for you.)
He is and was a supporter of communizm and socializm and liberalizm.
So yes, he is just a tadpole, but he influenced people like a big ol' BullFrog.
No long time for this basher....Rather, the blather, was
into his spitefal mood since his trashing of Nixon
through the Watergate fiasco...was resentful of Bush (41)
and showed it throughout his administration..and it
carried over to Bush (43). He was blinded and actually
obsessed with his vitriolic view of these men...I don't
think he ever had a bad thing to say about Kerry and
his Vietnam service., even when the Swift Boat vets came
down hard with facts..where is the fairness? He never
had it and it showed..courage, my A$$$.,,Jake
Yea, notto say your old or anyhthing and I was not implying that but like 5 years ago I was not even watching news. To be honest I still don't watch the news - and it seems fewer people do. I get most of my news online and on the radio as I work through the day. At night I am watching The Simpsons at the time the news is on.
"Buckhead isn't a blogger, but the MSM seems to use that term to refer to FReepers and other posters on bulletin boards. It seems to be a shorthand way of describing anyone who posts on the Internet."
I think it's a combination of igorance of the "blogosphere" and condescension by reporters. They don't think bloggers are "real" journalists, so they can't even bother to get it right. They do that with the military also, constantly calling Marines soldiers and reporting erroneous facts.
Rather gone, Bush won and is being vindicated, economy going good.
Man, what's next, the falcons winning the Super Bowl?
After all, Rather has shared some of the most traumatic moments of the past 44 years with us, from the John F. Kennedy assassination to Vietnam to Watergate to Sept. 11
Dan Rather: Absurd until the bitter end:
Is he a a FRogger or a blEEPER?
Great photo and article! It was an honor to meet you and I enjoyed our discussion at the Ball. FReep On!
You got that right. The implication that I did it to get Rather is an artifact of the writing and editing of the piece.
On the subject of bête noirs, I used that phrase to the reporter, and he didn't know what it meant! I had to translate it for him - and it doesn't carry quite the same meaning when literally translated as it does when properly used. I think perhaps I should have used "boogey man" or something like that.
I do not have my own blog.
It was a blast meeting all the cool folks I met at the ball, and this party was fun, too. Everyone was so kind.
Now that Danno's hung up his spikes, I think it's fair to say that my 15 minutes are officially up.
The guys from Powerline got some kind of an award last night, and they posted this comment today, which is exactly how I feel about it:
"We get a lot [of credit for Rather's retirement]," said John Hinderaker, a Minneapolis attorney and Power Line co-founder. "Probably more than we deserve. We were by no means the only site that was involved in this. We view ourselves as symbolically standing for them all. In our view, the real story is in the medium, in the power of the Internet."
Best regards to my all my FRiends,
Buckhead, thanks for clearing that up for me.
No problem;I have no hangups on age, but I do know most dirt is older than me... But you don't have to be any certain age to know a bit of history.
I don't watch the mainstream news either as a general practice, only when there is something of particular interest on to document.
Your Simpsons comment makes a lot of things clear...:>)
